Natalie's Discography :
Scroll below to view Natalie's Discography complete with Descriptions, Options to Buy, Videos, & more :
"Inseparable" was released in 1975. This is the one that started it all folks & let me tell ya ... every song on here is amazing !!! The album's biggest hits were This Will Be, I Can't Say No, & of course Inseparable ! And not only did it skyrocketed Natalie to fame, but it also brought Ms.Cole her very 1st Grammys. She won for "Best New Artist" & "Best R&B Performance, Female for This Will Be" !!! Click below to watch one of Natalie's first recorded performances of TWB back in 1975 and you'll see just why she won :
"Natalie" was released a mere year after Inseparable (in 1976) , this album featured hits such as Sophisticated Lady (She's a Different Lady), Mr. Melody, Can We Get Together Again, Heaven Is With You, & the Billie Holiday classic Good Morning Heartache. The album also brought Natalie another Grammy for "Best R&B Performance, Female for Sophisticated Lady" (which was also a song that she co-wrote) !!! Wow 3 Grammys in less than 2 years ... that's my gurl !!!
"Unpredictable" was released in early 1977; this album continued Natalie's success bringing her hits such as I've Got Love On My Mind, Party Lights, (the lesser know but still incredible) Be Mine Tonight & of course I'm Catchin' Hell (which is one of Natalie's greatest performances ever to be put on record ... next time listen out for the candid "Somebody Turn Up My Microphone" towards the end of the song ! ). Natalie also penned a track for this album entitled Peaceful Living. You can Click Below to see Natalie singing one of this album's biggest hits, I've Got Love On My Mind, back in the year of the album's release (1977):
"Thankful" was released in late 1977; Natalie recorded this album while she was pregnant with her only child Robert (Robbie) Adam Yancy, which is why the album cover features a painting of her, rather than a picture. This album was also a smash, including hits such as Annie Mae (written by Natalie), Lovers, La Costa (also co-written by Natalie) , Be Thankful, & of course Our Love (which when performed live, Natalie replaces the words "Love is just a little baby" with "love is just my Little Robbie" to acknowledge her son, who is currently touring with his mom & playing the drums in her band.)
"Natalie ... Live ! " was released in 1978 & was also recorded while Natalie was pregnant. This album is highly coveted by Natalie fans & is by far the hardest one to find. But if you are lucky enough to find it, you'll be able to hear incredible live recordings of Natalie's earliest hits, as well as songs that were never recorded for studio albums such as Cry Baby, Somethin's Got a Hold On Me, & Que Sera Sera.
"I Love You So" was released in 1979 (which was also the year Natalie received her star on the Walk of Fame). The album brought Natalie's fans R&B songs with just a hint of Disco mixed in & contained hits such as Stand By, Your Lonely Heart, & I Love You So. Also, the last track on the album, Who Will Carry On, was written by Natalie.
"We're The Best Of Friends" was released in 1979 as well. This album was a duets album done with Peabo Bryson. It contained a duet of Natalie's former solo hit Your Lonely Heart, as well as the hits Gimmie Some Time, & What You Won't Do For Love.
"Don't Look Back" was released in 1980, the album contained hits such as Hold On, (I've Seen) Paradise (which was written as a joint effort between Natalie & her then husband, Marvin Yancy & is truly a work of art). The album also featured the hit song Someone That I Used To Love (which was recently featured in Kanye West's single Heard Em Say ... good to know even rappers appreciate good music).
"Happy Love" was released in 1981 & contains the hits Nothin But A Fool, Across The Nation, You Were Right Girl, and Love & Kisses, as well as Natalie's hair-raising cover of When A Man Loves A Woman ! Hard to believe that song could have been made any better, but Natalie can always find a way !
"I'm Ready" was released in 1983 & contains songs such as Too Much Mister, I Won't Deny You, Where's Your Angel, & How Can You Stop . This album is very attitudinal; it’s a mix of R&B and Dance (almost techno style) songs. Though it’s one of the more underrated Natalie albums, it’s still a good album for it’s time & I couldn’t imagine my collection without it.
"Unforgettable : A Musical Tribute to Nat King Cole" was a BBC television program recorded as an album for Johnny Mathis & Natalie in 1983. Though this album only contains 2 tracks featuring Natalie, it is the 1st time fans got a taste of her singing her father's songs on record & none of us could get enough.
"Dangerous" was released in 1985 & became a quiet comeback album for Natalie. Though it's numbers weren't as high as fans would have expected them to be, the album included some great songs such as A Little Bit Of Heaven, Billy The Kid Next Door, & The Gift , which was a personal thank you from Natalie to her fans & a beautiful song to boot."Everlasting" was really the comeback album for Natalie. Released in 1987, the album included hits such as Everlasting, Pink Cadillac, Jumpstart, I Live For Your Love, & a Pop/R&B version of her father's hit When I Fall In Love. The album is so well rounded, it had dance hits & songs which were set to become classic slow jams … overall it is definitely a must have for me (then again which Nat album isn’t ? LOL) !!! You can Click below to see the music video for the album’s dance hit… Pink Cadillac :
"Good To Be Back" was released in 1989, & though it was very similar in the types of songs it contained to Everlasting, the album did have wonderful hit songs of it own, such as Miss You Like Crazy, Gonna Make You Mine, Rest Of The Night, & I Do (a duet with Freddie Jackson). Now here's the big one, the one that everybody knows (LOL). "Unforgettable : With Love" was released in 1991. It of course featured Natalie paying tribute to her late great father, by singing 22 of his biggest hits. Natalie was actually able to record this album in the same studio (Capitol Record's Studio A) where Nat had recorded some of the same hits she was resurrecting. Natalie has said that recording this album was truly a labor of love, because it was so special & so emotional, it was a way for her to say thank you to her dad. On this album, Natalie brought her voice to a new level of greatness. She recorded hits such as The Very Thought Of You, Mona Lisa, L-O-V-E, Smile, For Sentimental Reasons, & so many others. Of course the last track on the album was a duet which featured Natalie & Nat singing Unforgettable. This was truly a first... this goal was hard to achieve technically & emotionally. But the result brought Natalie a beautiful & touching hit, a new audience, & a boatload of Grammys. ;) Natalie also made a video for Unforgettable with home movies she had of her & her father. It is really amazing to watch especially when Natalie performs the song live. Here, Take A Look (pun always intended) :
You can also click below to view the music video for "The Very Thought Of You" :
"Take A Look" was released in 1993 & featured Natalie continuing to explore the jazz realm. It includes hits such as I Wish You Love, I'm Beginning To See The Light, Take A Look, & a few more of her father's old hits such as Let There Be Love, This Will Make You Laugh, & Calypso Blues (which if I remember correctly features Natalie's son Robbie on drums). The album also contains a remake one of Natalie's own songs, Lovers (originally from Thankful in 1977). She updated the song, giving it more of a jazzy/bluesy feel by adding more horns & scatting (her scatting is second only to Ella Fitzgerald's & personally I Loove when she scats! ) It isn't surprising that Natalie won yet another Grammy for this album, this time for "Best Vocal Jazz Performance"! Click below to watch the music video for Take A Look, & you'll understand why you need to add this album to your jazz collection : )
"Holly & Ivy" was Natalie's first Christmas Album. Released in 1994, it contained her version of her father's classic The Christmas Song, as well as other Holiday favorites such as Merry Christmas Baby (no one gives this song the attitude it needs better than Ms.Natalie), Jingle Bells, & No More Blue Christmas'. Also look for the video of the Holly & Ivy television special because it is a must watch to welcome in the Holiday season, as is Natalie's first starring movie role in the made for TV holiday film Lily In Winter ! You can click below to watch Natalie's music video for "The Christmas Song" & start your holiday season off right :
"A Celebration Of Christmas" was also a concert recorded as both an album & a TV special. Released in 1996, it features Natalie & 2 of the 3 tenors performing Holiday classics from around the world. Check out Natalie's version of Amazing Grace on this album & you'll understand why people have compared her to Aretha. There definitely are some similarities but Natalie gives it that special Cole touch that only she could pull off. Also look for the tape of this concert because our gurl really gives a great performance, especially when you remember that she was scheduled to do this show on very short notice & sick with a high fever … now Only Natalie could pull that off !!!
"Stardust" was released in 1997. It featured Natalie covering jazz standards, some of which were her father's. The songs included What A Diff'rence A Day Made, Like A Lover, Love Letters, Teach Me Tonight, Pick Yourself Up, Stardust, Let's Face The Music & Dance, & of course another duet with her father ... this time Natalie recorded When I Fall In Love with Nat. Though Unforgettable is always thought of first, I couldn't love this duet more, they are completely equal in my mind... the duet is simply beautiful & so sweet. That's probably why it won the Grammy for "Best Pop Collaboration". Ohhh & the video is fantastic, Natalie looks stunning & I loove the part where they are together at the piano because it looks so real... That's the way it should have been, I'm tellin ya it goes straight to your heart ! Check it out :
"Snowfall On The Sahara" was released in 1999 & was a wonderful mix of a few different genres pulled together by Natalie's incredible voice. It started off with her soulful take on A Song For You, & also included songs such as Say You Love Me (another soulful & sensual take on a great song), Corinna, With My Eyes Wide Open I'm Dreaming & Snowfall On The Sahara (which if I'm not mistaken were both co-written by Natalie). The album also includes More Than You'll Ever Know (which is a song that's very special to me & my mother as well as a couple of good friends). Overall this is a..nother must have Natalie album which is very close to my heart. Just Check Out this live performance of Say You Love Me (Live at the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards) & I'm sure you will understand why :
"The Magic Of Christmas" was also released in 1999. This was Natalie's second official Christmas album (I say that because there was also a Hallmark CD released called "Christmas With You - Natalie Cole" which did not contain any new material). "Magic..." also contained a myriad of Holiday favorites such as My Grown-Up Christmas List, The Twelve Days Of Christmas, O Tannenbaum, & Sleigh Ride. But the most memorable is Natalie's second recording of The Christmas Song. This time Natalie recorded it as a duet with her father, & it couldn't have been more perfect ! It simply is not Christmas in my house without this song !"Natalie Cole's Greatest Hits : Volume One" was released in 2000. The album was released to coincide with Natalie's made for TV movie (Livin For Love : The Natalie Cole Story) & her autobiography (Angel On My Shoulder which is in my opinion one of the greatest books ever written, & I have read it so many times it has become like a second bible to me LOL) . The album contained classic Cole favorites such as This Will Be, Inseparable, & I'm Catchin Hell (however this version of Catchin Hell was clipped to cut out Natalie's awesome intro which can be found on her original Unpredictable album or her Anthology). The album also held a surprise, 3 new singles : A Smile Like Your’s (which was featured in a movie of the same name) , Livin For Love (which was written by Natalie & is an empowering song taken to a height that only Natalie could achieve ... this is one of those songs that you blast on a bad day to lift your spirits , I do anyway), & Angel On My Shoulder (which was also written by Natalie & is a song which is also very special to me … it just about sums up her life, & mine too, LOL). Bottom Line … even if you have all of Natalie's albums like I do, go out & get this one as well because it's a great collection, & the new (at the time) songs are well worth it !!! If you don’t believe me just check out this video of Natalie performing Livin’ For Love [Live] & you’ll know why this is a must have album. Click below to be blown away by Natalie :
"Ask A Woman Who Knows" was released in 2002 & it reunited Natalie with Tommy LaPuma who helped to produce her Unforgettable : With Love album. This was Natalie's 1st album with her new (& current) label, Verve Records, & was composed of obscure jazz standards from singers such as Sarah Vaughan, Diana Washington, Carmen McRae, & even some songs which were recorded by her father. Natalie was able to recreate songs such as I'm Glad There Is You, It's Crazy, The Music That Makes Me Dance, Ask A Woman Who Knows, & my personal favorite ... Tell Me All About It, by adding more of an instrumental quality to her voice. There was also a duet on the album which featured Natalie & Diana Krall singing Better Than Anything. BBC & PBS teamed up to release a DVD of a concert taped in London, where Natalie showcased the album (joined by Diana) & sung a few of her other hits such as This Will Be, More Than You'll Ever Know, & I'm Beginning To See The Light. You can look for the concert on the DVD which holds the same name as the album and Click Below to watch the promotional video trailer for the album :

What's New :
Besides the extraordinary Leavin, Natalie has released a couple of singles in the last few months which are available for download through iTunes by clicking on the album art (which I created) below. I hope you will consider purchasing them not only to help support our gurl but also because they are sure to bring a smile to your face. Enjoy Y'all ;)
The first song, "I Say A Little Prayer For You", was recorded & released for charity & debuted on Natalie's recent NBC Studio 60 TV Appearance. It's a wonderful cover of the Aretha Franklin classic & actually the second time we have heard Natalie perform it. If any of you are familiar with Natalie's 90s TV Show - Big Break you may remember that Natalie performed the song for the first time on there with Whitney Houston. This time around Natalie took the song & made it very pop-casual by adding some soft beats & bringing her vocals up a bit. Overall I loooove this song & couldn't wait to have it after it's TV debut (which was way too short, LOL). You can see for yourself by clicking on my album artwork below to download your copy through iTunes now :
The next new song is a duet recorded with Macy Gray called "Finally Made Me Happy" for Macy's new album (in stores March 27th I believe). Though Natalie's part doesn't begin til around 1:17 of this 4:03 minute song, it is definitely a must have seeing as Natalie really cuts loose on this one. She does all of the background vocals & simply owns the last half of this song. If any of you have seen Natalie's self produced bio-pic ("Livin For Love : The Natalie Cole Story") it may remind you of the part in the film where Natalie sings with the band Black Magic during her college years. (I think anyway that) The vocals are very similar ... she brings back that 70s grit to her voice & I just loooooove that (as if you couldn't tell, LOL). So to get a listen for yourself you must click my album artwork below to download your copy through iTunes now :

Natalie will also appear on the We All Love Ella: Celebrating the First Lady of Song album (in stores as of Tuesday, June 5th) to coincide with the 90th birthday celebration/tribute concert which Natalie hosted (which originally aired Wednesday, June 6th & is now available on DVD). The concert & album contain appearances from sooo many incredible artists paying tribute to the late, great Ella Fitzgerald; including not only Natalie but also Nancy Wilson, Chaka Khan, Michael Buble, Ledisi, Queen Latifah, & so many others !!! Natalie appears on 2 of the tracks … the first track on the album, “A Tisket A Tasket†(which was the first Jazz song she ever learned), as well as “Mr. Paganini†which was recorded as a duet with her good friend Ms. Chaka Khan (you may remember Natalie’s incredible version of this song from her Grammy tribute to Ella a few years back - Natalie Cole – Mr. Paganini [Live at the Grammys] ). I can assure that this album & concert are ahhhhmazing … a definite must buy/watch. You can purchase the album & the DVD now at your local store or click the title above to buy the CD through Amazon.com. You can also click the cover art below to download the album with bonus tracks from iTunes. & make sure to look for the DVD & check your PBS listings for We Love Ella !
