"The Magic Scales is an appealing and proficient debut!" Stan Nicholls - award-winning author of ORCS and THE QUICKSILVER TRILOGY.
Aimed at kids from 9 - 90,‘The Magic Scales’ is a non stop, magical adventure in which the heroes are a wizard-goldfish, an asthmatic boy and a mum with the social skills of a dalek.
Scottish author, Sam Wilding, has taken a ten-year-old asthma sufferer and made him a hero in a world where the disease is the least of his worries. The colourful characters of a small Scottish village are catapulted into a chaotic, dying world where battling races strive to survive an inevitable holocaust.
Olida Publishing have now released the book worldwide, where it is available from £9.99 or less from over 47 suppliers. The ebook is also available for as little as $6.99.
Sam wrote The Magic Scales for his son in the wee small hours while staying away on business and has been amazed by the initial reviews and the discussions it has provoked about the ever-increasing problem of asthma.
Sam Wilding comments: “We live in an age where asthma seems to be on the increase. I wanted to show that a kid could have a great adventure despite being a sufferer. In the book the hero – James Peck, is temporarily set free of the condition and sees what it is like to run with his imagination.”
In a story full of family tension as well as monsters and mayhem, Wilding also lets people see how sometimes other non-sufferers struggle to understand the disease and what it means.
Ihe first of three kids adventure books, set in his fantasy world of Denthan. It took 3 years to complete and is, in itself, a wonderful, ripping yarn full of magic and random ‘Dr Who-like mayhem’.

Postcard form Helmsdale

Helmsdale sounds like it just tripped off the tongue of J RR Tolkien, but actually it is a wonderfully real and magical place in the far north east of Scotland. With the North Sea lapping at its harbo...

Just back from Pisa, Italy. It should have been a cultural, gastronomic wonder, but instead it turned out to be a trudge round a lovely city while smitten with man-flu. No appetite for the leaning tow...
