BOXING: Twelve-year-old Cristopher Newman won a 3-round decision over Ryan Funseth of Fergus Falls, Minn., to win the 60-pound class in the USA Boxing Nationals on Saturday.He also is the only boxer representing South Carolina to win.The North Augusta Middle School seventh grader is a third generation Newman in amateur boxing, following in his father's footsteps.But he's a bit more advanced than his father, Noah Jr., who won his national championship at the age of 16 in 1979.A championship belt, medal and jacket were part of Newman's ....loot'' from the Lenexa, Kan., championships. He also gets to keep his gloves, said Jo-Anne Newman, his grandmother.She and her husband, Noah Sr., operate the North Augusta Police Athletic League Boxing Club.
