My Story
“You play bass now?” is something I hear sometimes. I started playing guitar in junior high when I realized that playing 1st clarinet in school band wasn’t getting me laid. I think I was inspired by KISS to start playing. The over-the-top attitude with the make-up and killer stage show made me want to be like them.It wasn’t long before I was in my first band, Stone Deaf. We had 3 guitar players(just like Skynyrd) and played all the hits of the day. That band evolved into Atlantis and I became Lead Guitarist. I was really into most of the classics, Zeppelin, The Who, Sabbath, Pink Floyd, etc. but discovered RUSH and was hooked! My next band, Trilogy, was a 3 piece and we covered every Rush song ever written. It was a blast and really got my chops up. I soon became obsessed with the metal of the day, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, etc. and not long after that came Slayer, Metallica, Merciful Fate, Exodus, etc. I formed my own band to play the heavy shit. We were called DIX(Play on Kix). Dix turned into Pitbulls on Crack(God I still love that name)and then became Roadkill. It was around this time that I met the band, Slayer, at Hammerjacks(the original) and followed them around for a while. They were really good guys and very cool to me(as well as their crew). After the Headbangers Ball New Years 1992? show in Denver, CO, Dave Lombardo(drums) quit/was fired from the band. Summer 1992 while vacationing in L.A, Dave invited me to stay at his house in Victorville, CA for a couple days. I brought my guitar and we jammed and had a really great time. He had been pretty depressed since the break up and didn’t know what he was going to do. He said that if he ever got a solo project together, he wanted me in it. We corresponded via mail, sending tapes back and forth and he would update me as he found more guys for the band. We had the worst time finding a bass player and we had a couple of great guitar players interested so I volunteered to switch to bass since what we were looking for was a very solid, percussion based backline. I always had a good sense of rythm but really got into playing the back beat. I’m sure it helped that I was playing with one of the best drummers in the world. We became Grip Inc. and were ready to go. After 8 months with the band, they decided to fire me and I came back to Maryland and swore that I would never play again. That lasted for about a year and then a buddy of mine called me and begged me to play bass in his band, Diggerstone. I did. That lasted a while until the singer ran off with my wife(good riddance). Then I hooked up with a very unique band, Skitzo Jubilee, and we played all over Baltimore. That lasted almost 3 years and when we broke up in August 2001, the guitarist and myself wanted to form a heavy cover band and Twitch was born. We had a nice run but when our drummer had to leave the band and we decided to call it quits. I answered an ad for a bass player on musicmonthly.com for Shimmer and had great run with them for almost 2 years. When Bryan Tucker heard that Shimmer broke up, he begged me to be a part of Witzend(I am still waiting for that stripper). Witzend is a great band and some great friends but I was really missing playing heavy tunes. I have been with these guys for a couple of months when I heard that former members of JJ Rodd were looking for a bass player. When Shimmer first broke up, my first band of choice was JJ Rodd but alas they did not need a bass player. When I saw that Roger & Kory were forming a new band I went for it! Playing the heaviest music I possibly can is where my heart is! Unbroken was an amazing run for me from September 2004 to January 2008. Sponsored by Jagermeister and having the amazing opportunity to share the stage with bands like Slayer,Killswitch Engage,Mastodon,Bloodhound Gang,Lacuna Coil,Shadows Fall and Stone Sour. Playing with all the boys in UB over the years: Kory G,Roger Funk, TJ Torillo,Doug Readmond,Damon Dukes II & Brian Peacock was my absolute pleasure. Also making friends, my UB family and jamming with all of the amazing musicians of Baltimore. I miss you all already.
The newest part of my story is that less than a week in the UK I have joined the ranks of ISOLATION and we are gigging all over the UK and work tirelessly on songs for a new record. Also now a permanent bassist for Steve Grimmett's Grim Reaper! Stay tuned people and keep in touch with me. Peace & METAL!!!!
