About Me

Blacklights are a band from Sydney, Australia. They were initially formed in 2007 by three music school students - Matt Nurthen (drums), George Sheridan (bass) and Matt Hunter (guitar, vocals) with the lineup being completed by the addition of Doug Beattie (guitar) a short time after. Their sound stems from the band members’ indie and rock roots with influences such as Rival Schools, Cave In, The Stooges, Interpol, Hard Lessons, Jimmy Eat World, QOTSA, and We Are Scientists just to name few. The band's set-list usually ranges from experimental indie sounds to expanded 70's rock-influenced jams. Blacklights has had a big 2008 including local radio air play and a number of memorable live performances including Gaelic Club, Annandale Hotel and Hopetoun Hotel shows as well as playing the Surry Hills Festival. During the year the band also had its song "Song 3" added to Triple J Unearthed's weekly "top ten featured artists" list. Look out for their debut EP and many more shows around Sydney and beyond in 2009.
