About Me
I was elected in the November 2007 federal election when over one million Australians put five Australian Greens in the Senate, giving the Greens official party status and the shared balance of power. I'm the fifth Greens Senator Western Australian voters have sent to Canberra, the first being Jo Vallentine in 1984.
I have worked as a peace and environmental activist, working for a nuclear-free Australia and nuclear-free world. This work has spanned issues as diverse as preventing uranium mining at Jabiluka and Western Australia, Aboriginal land rights, peace, military bases, climate change, trade, globalisation, and energy market reform.
A film maker, artist and graphic designer by trade, I created a 30 minute documentary in 2007 on why nuclear energy is no solution to climate change, titled ‘Climate of Hope.'
Australia has a huge opportunity to switch to a low carbon economy. My aim is to ensure all Western Australians share in long-term wealth generated from our diverse renewable resources, as much as we have benefited from our mineral resources.
