Santo Florelli

Born in Sicily (Italy) in 1976, spends part of his childhood in New Jersey (USA) where he still periodically lives. Since 1983 he lives in Genoa where he achieves the artistic diploma (Artistic lyceum P. Klee) and starts studying drums under the guide of composer and drummer Max Biaselli. Afterwards he continues his studies at the Modern Music Academy in Milan and consecutively develops his own patterns and execution methods thanks to the well known drummer Agostino Marangolo. From 1988 to 2003 promotes new teaching initiatives at the scientific lyceum “Cassini” in Genoa. Today Florelli teaches both in the artistic music academy “Sinafe” and in the musical study center “CDM”, therefore improving his teaching skills and in the meanwhile developing individual creativity. Here are some of the most significant artistic experiences. Firstly he begins with the space rock progressive band “weirdland” elaborating new sounds and trends. Three years later he gets involved with the funky band “Factotum” and then meets the composer and bass player Giulio Gaietto who has collaborated with Santo Florelli since 1996, firstly in the fusion quartet “bet” and then committing themselves, with the experienced pianist Alberto Bof, to a new jazz fusion trio called “gas”. He cooperates with the Italian rock band “altera” on a new idea developing the connection between music and poetry. The collaboration with altera and Franz Di Cioccio, famous singer and drummer (PFM) is appreciated and appears on the main Italian television channels (RAI). Since 2002 Santo is involved in different pop, latin, blues, soul and jazz arrangements. The recent experience with “aparecidos” is a texture of different cultures with new influences from the background of the musicians. Santo Florelli has also different theater experience with the directors Graziella Martinoli, Nella Bozzano, Alfred De Grazia and the choreographer Markus Zmoelnig. Other collaborations with Matteo Merli, Kimmy Chi, DPT of Genoa, Jimmy Weinstein, Progetto alba ideale, Tommaso Rolando, Marcello Picchioni, Bobby Soul, Francesco Moneti, Facundo e Santiago Moreno, Mattia Tommasini, Marco Tindiglia, Marco Ravera.
