I decided to head out to the rocks for a morning hike and a few drops (rappelling). The morning started out beautiful! Once at the top of my choice rock I did my first drop. I started down over a sweet overhang and once to the ledge below I figured out there was not enough rope to get to the bottom and climbing up on the rope was not an option. So, off rope I went and after a little effort I was back on top. I moved to another spot hopping to have enough to get to the bottom. I set my anchor and tossed the rope over the cliff. I decided to walk along the top a bit to see where the rope went. What I saw was not what I expected. My rope landed, hung up on a bees nest about 40 feet down the side of the cliff. Shortly after I saw this I was visited by several little flying bees who were not to happy with my throw. I ran they followed I ran some more. This went on several times as I tried to go back and fix the problem, had to run from the bees. Finally I decided to grab my gear and rope and make a run for it. So I did, problem is my rope snagged on the cliff while I was running full speed. I was on my back and the bees were soon on me, again. I ran away and waited for the bees to calm down again. What I finally decided to do was throw the rest of the rope over the side and hope it would unsnag and fall to the desert below. I did this and made my way to the bottom. Once there I saw my rope did not fall nicely to the desert floor, it was still snagged on the bees nest. I left the rope for the bees. One my way back to the car I almost stepped on the local viper. The rattle snake looked at me like I scarred the crap out of him and I said, "dude you scarred the crap out of me." We exchanged hellos, I took photos and he rattled. Well, that was my morning. ;)..
