The Rented Youth

The Rented Youth was born out of the vibrant city of Seattle, WA and has now sinced moved to the Portland, OR area. Brian Thomsen, founder of The Rented Youth, had been listening to the many different sounds coming out of Seattle and he knew he could offer his own unique musical style. After being underground for so long, Brian is now back in the music scene and focuses much of his attention on his lyrics.
"The overall message of the song has to be clear," says Brian. "Although, sometimes I like to allow people to come to their own conclusions about what my songs mean. Music is the ultimate outlet for artists to express their inner emotions and desires to the whole world. Now we have the technology to be able to get our message out to the world faster and easier. This is certainly the age of the artist."
Brian started out writing love ballads while attending high school in Federal Way. He was even in a 5-man a'capella group there as well. After a summer in Europe by himself, Brian had a journal full of lyrics he'd written under the influences of Amsterdam's Red Light District, Paris' city of love, Greece's beautiful beaches, and Italy's captivative culture. While attending classes at Washington State University, Brian collected more material, writing customized songs and performing them at friend's weddings, which is something that Brian also does on the side.
