About Me

hao chiang chiang was started in 2003 by john logan and samuel parker. it began as a two piece acoustic duo playing to a keyboard drum track, sometimes having other musicians come in to play more guitars, bass, or percussion, and sometimes they had friends come in and play that weren't musicians at all. they played shows in austin, albaquerque, san francisco,
and their living room, which is sometimes called chicago. after a small hiatus, a friend named eli joined the band on guitar, so samuel picked up the drums, and the songs began to be more rock influenced, not so much because eli is a rock guitarist, but more because samuel is a rock drummer. as a 3 piece, hao chiang chiang played few shows, mostly parties and passed around a 4 track demo that john logan made in his closet. it was not accepted by many, despite the complete genius of the songwriting and recording abilities. the album began with a minute and a half intro to the song skintight, the minute and a half in question consisting of an organ holding a C octaved...and that's all. people reported turning it off by the end of the first minute, convinced that the disc had malfunctioned. regardless, the few people that understood the album revered hao chiang chiang as a serious force that was up and coming in the austin music scene.
there were several shows with metalish band Manifesto, a late-nineties style hard rock/metal band originating in Brownsville, Texas. the shows were completely mis-billed, with hao chiang chiang, at the time, playing more soft, avant garde, pop songs, to the ferocity of Manifesto's powerful delivery, however, people seemed to enjoy themselves, especially Manifesto's excellent bass player Iram, who later decided to leave the 'festo to join the chiang in helping to create something challenging and beautiful.
an old friend kevin who was also a bass player in a metal band, that was fronted by a female, as the fliers would always say, decided to join hao chiang chiang as well, seeing as how his band had put him into a rut of judging music by it's overall "heaviness". kevin was assigned to fill in the spots the chiang boys thought were necessary, keyboards here, gtr there, percussion back there, shouting in that thing, break your leg over on this, get divorced while holding this doohicky, and when it was all put together it was quite an amazing sight to behold!
shows and more shows, great ones with the gris gris, noise revival, noise revival orchestra, happy families, the boxing lesson, transmography, parque touch, the guise, and so many more. hao chiang chiang loves the people that come to see them every show, and those special people love them back for giving them a great experience to go tell their friends about. make your way out to a show sometime, shake some hands, have a drink, show us all your favorite new dance moves, and enjoy the songs of hao chiang chiang. we'll see you there.______________________________________________________
