A former homicide detective captain in the New York City Police Department, trumpet player, songwriter and band leader, Bob Cantwell has led quite the colorful life! From 1978 to 2002, Cantwell led his band, The Saturday Night Stompers at the Red Blazer at each of its three locations in Manhattan; obviously the inspiration in the writing of his song, "Red Blazer Rag". Bob Cantwell and his band are in the movie "Arthur 2 On The Rocks" with Liza Manelli and Dudley Moore. He currently lives on Long Island and performs all over the Tri-State area. According to Jazz critic John S. Wilson of the New York Times "(Cantwell's) trumpet solos are simple, direct, close to the melodic line and accented with graceful lifts and short, runnign breaks. He is also a singer. The music Bob plays is a combination of Dixieland and traditional jazz. Bob has performed with many of the jazz greats; he still performs with world-renonwed clarinet player Sol Yaged. Last but not least, Bob is the proud father of two musicians, daughter Kimmet Cantwell, a pop-rock singer/songwriter, and Rob Cantwell, a drummer with NYC bands The Governors and The Novellas. Son Rob is also a four-time Emmy award winning photojournalist with ABC News New York. Bob can be reached for bookings at 631-598-0275
