The Hip-Hop Attitude
I describe myself as a young guy, born mid 80’s and already reaching my mid-life crisis with a precarious family situation. But I’ve got one desire : to fly with my own wings !
Hip-hop attitude is for us, the young people, a minority of precursory adults and the leaders of a new wave, a way to face life, express ideas and ideologies. It’s a way of proclaiming existence and to belong to a group of people who excel in various domains: Dance, Graf, Rap, Beat Box...
It’s a way of distinguishing yourself, to make your place within the "crew" and of representing yourself individually in a positive way vis-a-vis other gangs in the same ethnic group...
The pride emanating from these unforgettable moments of “battlingâ€, when everyone gets together, procures a real collective feeling of respect beyond the religious, ethnic and social differences.
Here in a few words are the reasons which make me want to remember the best moments as well as the worst.
And I note, taking a step back from it all, that to overcome the tests and the challenges that life throws at us, we must keep our base of ideas and our reason for being always positive and our determination unwavering!
Remain true, respectful of our values and grow conscious of our freedom of expression and the message that we give through hip hop.
These origins, values, memories make us what we are, throughout the years, trips and enriching experiences.
These origins, values, memories make us what we are, throughout the years, trips and enriching experiences.
Our country, our city, our district, our crew and our gang all enable us to build our own identity.
Defining itself through ideas, music, dance style, creativity and its crew, identity is about belonging to a group, whatever the socio-cultural mix, and the message must always remain positive and based on absolute respect.
Contribute to someting that respects the values of each one among us, find it’s place under the dome of this multilinguistic, multiracial and multiethnic culture. The message which emanates from such a movement is before all a common message.
I thank the earth for not having been born in a country in war.
I thank the politics of my country to have allowed me freedom of expression.
I thank myself for having kept a cool head all these years to allow me to mature.
I would like to thank my family, my friends, all the people that I’ve met on nights out, during my travels, and all those who have allowed me to question myself and bounce back to become the happy father that I am today.
I would like to thank my wife for her support – I love you !
I would like to thank all those who have taken part, who are currently taking part and who will take part in the future, from near and from far, in the safeguard of the hip-hop culture.
I would like to thank AFRIKA BAMBAATAA, CRAZY LEGGS, KRSONE, FUTURA 2000, GRANDMASTER FLASH, FAB 5 FREDDY, CURTIS BLOW, ROCK STEADY CREW… and the many many others who are the base of our HIP-HOP today !!!
PEACE. LOVE AND UNITY.
