ABOUT PLANET SOUND COMMUNITY ARTS
Planet Sound Community Arts was incorportated as a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee on 31st December 1998. From the outset it aimed to provide and develop the arts across the communities of the North Staffs and support the local artistic community.
Initially work focused on music, as the founder directors were all community musicians, but over time, Planet Sound's work has invovled dance, drama, photography, web design and stagecraft.
Planet Sound is a member of the Youth Music Action Zone "Make some noise" and works in collaboration with many groups including the YMAZ partners, the youth servcies, venues and festivals across the area, local and international artists and the councils of both Stoke On Trent and the Newcastle Borough.
Each year Planet Sound Community Arts works with thousands of individuals from across North Staffordshire in a whole range of settings, including youth centres, schools and day centres. The organisation has on-going outreach projects across the community, including long term music projects set up in high schools in Stoke On Trent, Newcastle Under Lyme and at the Arch Day Centre.
In addition to developing these projects, Planet Sound is focusing development on the in house projects, such as the Planet Sound Drum School, CHINA theatre company and various training programmes.
Many of Planet Sound's projects culminate in performance. Each year we have involved our projects in performances across the area including Newcastle Carnival, Sanity Fair, The Staffs County Show, Sunday in the Park, Art of Gold and notably Symphony Hall in 2002 and 2004. Planet Sound also stages its own showcase events in the winter months.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
We believe that the arts can inspire, heal and strengthen the individual.
We believe that everyone has creative potential inside them, but many do not possess the means neccessary to take an active role in artistic culture.
We aim to encourage people to explore their potential by providing the means.
We aim to encourage personal expression through both organised and spontaneous creativity, focusing on the notion of community based art, often ignored by conventional arts education.
We believe that education is the best way to attain positive change and progression in society. We believe that education is about preparing, equipping and encouraging individuals to pro-actively help themselves, their environment and their community.
