A-Tribute Ensemble

About Me

The A-Tribute Ensemble is a Los Angeles based piano trio (violin, piano, cello) that plays eclectic music within an improvised context. Starting with a background in classical training and branching outwards, the ensemble draws inspiration from various different styles, including minimalism, jazz, electronica, rock, folk, and Indian classical. The ensemble has also participated in various multi-disciplinary projects, such as dance, theater, film, poetry, puppet theater, animation, and other forms of multi-media performances/collaborations.

Hailed by critics as "having played beautifully" and "at first I didn't really believe you guys were improvising but then I saw you guys looking at each other and stuff", the A-Tribute continues to wander around LA, looking for their next performance opportunity. The group consists of Melinda Rice (violin), Ryan Tanaka (piano), and Chris Votek (cello).

Another kind word:

"...your trio really broke into new grounds in improvisation I thought that has been waiting to be explored. So many things were happening between each of you that I thought the level of listening and development of ideas was extremely imaginative that I was almost humbled by it...It was also done, with the element of play and fun yet there was depth in how things would appear and sink into the fabric..." - Kraig Grady 07/14/07

Contact atributeensemble at gmail.com for performances or commissions -- the ensemble is available for formal concert performances, background music for various events, sound recordings, accompaniment for dance and theater productions, or for educational concerts.
