Debut: July 1999 as Kahn in WXW
Previous Names: Kahn(WXW), Leviathan(OVW), Demon of the Deep(OVW), Deacon Batista(WWE), David Batista or The Animal (WWE).

He originally tried to become a body builder but this dream didn’t eventuate because no matter how hard he tried to bulk up his height always made him look smaller and less massive than the other guys. So after meeting Road Warrior Animal and Curt Hennig at a body-building show he decided to go into the world of Professional Wrestling. This didn’t come easy though because he was first knocked back by the WCW who said that he had no future in the business. This knock back only fuelled his desire to succeed so he went to the WWF where they hired him on the spot. From here he was sent to train under the Wild Samoan Afa from the Wild Samoan Training Centre in Allentown, PA.There he learnt the basics of the business from someone who had been through it himself. Through sheer hard work and determination Dave earned himself a spot in Afa’s WXW promotion as Kahn where he debuted in July 1999. He remained here for 7 months before heading to the OVW(Ohio Valley Wrestling), WWE’s training ground for up and coming superstars. On July 15th, 2000 Dave made his first televison debut as Leviathan by coming to the aid of Synn (OVW’s Stalwart Vixen). During his time here he faced future WWE superstars Kane, The Big Show, Randy Orton, John (Prototype) Cena, The Undertaker and Stone Cold Steve Austin. For 6 months Leviathan dominated the roster until being chokeslammed by Kane after being given a Stone Cold Stunner by Steve Austin. But on the 11th of November, 2001 Leviathan went up against Doug (The Machine) Basham for the OVW’s Heavyweight Championship and won. This he held onto until February 20th 2001 where he lost it in a controversial match to John (Prototype) Cena. But after demanding a title re-match his manager Synn felt he was becoming to independent so she sold his contract to Reverend D-Von and this is where Daves career finally began to take off.On May 9th 2002 Dave had his first televison debut on Smackdown as Deacon Batista a bodyguard for Reverend D-Von. His first match was a tag team match with the Reverend against Randy Orton and Faarooq and he came out the victor pinning Randy with his spinebuster. Over the coming weeks Randy tried countless times to beat him but with each attempt came fail and a spinebuster . This impressive winning streak helped him win many matches for the Reverend including one over Triple H. However not to be overshadowed Batista parted ways with D-Von in dramatic fashion ( after defeating him in a match with a Batista Bomb) and left Smackdown for Raw.Here he debuted on November 4th, 2002 as Batista in a match against Justin Credible destroying him in the process. His dominance continued as he racked up victory after victory subjecting everyone in his path to the dreaded Demonbomb (sit-out power bomb). People started to take notice including ‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair and it wasn’t long before they formed a partnership, and so started the fued with Kane. He eventually scored a victory over him at his first pay-per-view debut on December 15th, 2002 at Armageddon after heavy interference from Flair. On January 27th, 2003 Batista aligned himself with Triple H, Ric Flair and Randy Orton forming Evolution. Unfortunatley though on March 1st , 2003 Batista tore his right tricep muscle in a tag team match against the Dudley Boys at a house show and so he was sidelined for the next 7 months. His partner Randy Orton also broke his foot during this match so Evolution was put on hold for the time being. He made his return on October 20th, 2003 on Raw interfering in a match against Goldberg and Shawn Michaels causing Goldberg to ‘shatter’ his ankle and lose. After accomplishing this task Evolution came out and rewarded him with a 100,000 dollar bounty. Over the next few months Batista would hone his skills trying to be the best that he could be and at Armageddon December 14th, 2003 all his hard work was about to pay off. He lost to Shawn Michaels in a singles match earlier in the night but won the tag team turmoil match with Ric Flair eliminating the Dudley Boys to become one half of the World Tag Team Champions. By the end of the night Triple H would be World Heavyweight Champion and Randy Orton WWE Intercontinental Champion. Things were looking up for Evolution.Batista and Flair held their titles until February 16th, 2004 when they lost to Booker T and Rob Van Dam. However on March 22nd, 2004 they did manage to regain their titles once again from these two men but not before beating the legendary Tag Team of the The Rock N’ Sock Connection in a handicapped match at Wrestlemania XX.Over the next several months Evolution continued to dominate and were an unstoppable force but cracks were beginning to appear in the group. After Randy Orton won the World Heavyweight Championship on August 15th, 2004 from Chris Benoit the following night Triple H ousted him from the group saying that the WHC was rightfully his and that Orton was selfish. The three remaining members of Evolution beat him within an inch of his life. Batista was the one to deliver the fatal electric chair which ended it for Orton. Over the next few months Batista was to find out that Orton wasn’t the selfish one Triple H was. Triple H regained the World Heavyweight title off Orton at Unforgiven after delivering a fatal pedigree to him on a chair while the Referree was knocked out.At the 2004 Survivor Series Randy Ortons team which consisted of Maven, Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit faced off against Triple H’s team of Batista, Gene Snitsky and Edge in an 8 Man Elimination Tag match for control of Raw over the following month ( each member of the winning team would be General Manager of Raw for a week). Randy’s team won which ended up causing much unrest within Evolution. Prior to this pay-per-view however Triple H, Snitsky and Edge were seen arguing in the locker room, each saying that the WHC belonged to them. Batista was present during all of this but didn’t say a word he only took a brief look at the belt as everyone was leaving. The setting for the Batista/HHH fued had begun.During the week Randy Orton was General Manager of Raw Triple H had a match against Edge and Chris Benoit for the World Heavyweight title. Randy was ring-side and while the Referree was knocked out he hit Triple H with a chair causing him to go over the barricade which left Benoit and Edge in the ring to fight it out. Edge then went for the spear on Chris Benoit but he counted it with a Crippler Crossface and both tapped out at exactly the same time. Because of this incident Eric Bischoff vacated the title and decided to put it up for grabs at New Years Revolution in an Elimination Chamber Match.A week later on December 6th, 2004 Triple H was seen yelling at Batista for not helping him out the week before in his title match. Batista saw red and defended his actions saying that he had had enough of Triple H’s attitude. Later on that evening Triple H nailed Batista in the head with a chairshot . Flair who was present at the time held him while Batista looked on in confusion. The following week on Raw it was announced that at NYR Triple H, Benoit, Edge, Jericho, Randy Orton and Batista would be going up against each other in the chamber. Batista was pleased with this announcement but Triple H wasn’t he was in utter disbelief. So on December 27th, 2004 each participant in the Elimination Chamber had to compete in A Beat The Clock Match against whoever Bischoff put forward. The one that defeated their opponent in the quickest time would come out last in the Chamber. Batista went up against Rhyno and managed to beat him in a record time of 3 minutes, 2 seconds to become the last entry in the Chamber. So on January 9th, 2005 at New Years Revolution Batista eliminated Benoit and Jericho and looked set to win but was eliminated after Randy gave him an RKO. Triple H just sat back in the corner allowing this to happen. The next night on Raw Randy showed Batista the footage which made him furious and he demanded a No.1 contenders match for later in the evening which he got. His opponent was Randy. Triple H ‘tried’ to help Batista out by giving him a chair to cheat but he declined saying that he wanted to win it fair and square. Triple H then distracted Batista long enough to give Randy the edge and so make him lose his No.1 contenders shot. Dave was furious and showed it by tossing a chair across the ring.On January 17th, 2005 Batista was then given another qualifying match to enter the Royal Rumble. He told Triple H this but he was less than thrilled saying that if he went ahead and did the match he was nothing but selfish and self-centered. Batista agreed with him but went ahead and did it anyway. The next week he beat La Resistance in a handicap match to enter the Rumble. On January 30th, 2005, at the Royal Rumble, after a controversial finish he beat Cena to gain a title shot at Wrestlemania 21 against the Champion of his choice. This freaked out Triple H and set in motion a plan to try and make Dave go to SmackDown and face JBL. He even used a Limo resembling JBL’s to try and run Batista over (which I might add he sneakily saved him from ). On the 14th February, 2005 after this incident occurred Batista went to Smackdown to pay JBL back and in doing so smashed in every window of his Limo. At first Batista wanted to exact revenge on his own but Triple H insisted that Evolution stick together and went with him anyway. Batista already knew what Triple H was up to after over hearing a conversation backstage between him and the other Evolution members backstage so he just went along with it.So on the 21st of February, 2005 on Raw Batista made his decision about whether he would go Smackdown or stay on Raw. After listening to Triple H go on about why he should go to Smackdown Dave grabbed the microphone and let the secret out that he had known all along about his plan to get rid of him. He then threw the Raw contract on the ground making him and Flair think that they had won. He then held his thumbs up in the air as Flair and Triple H started to celebrate, but this quickly turned into a thumbs down to their sheer horror. He then grabbed Triple H and powerbombed him through the table before telling him that he was gonna get the title off him no matter what.On the 4th April, 2005 Batista then went on to win the World Heavyweight title off Triple H at Wrestlemania 21. This was the moment he had been waiting for all his life and one that he would never forget. Their was confetti falling from the ceiling and the crowd was going absolutely ballistic chanting his name. The following month at Backlash on the 1st May, 2005 Triple H tried to regain his title back off Batista but to no avail. On the 23rd of May Batista successfully defended his championship against Edge but after the match was over Flair came down and helped Triple H viciously attack him. During this attack he challenged Dave to a Hell in a Cell match at Vengeance which he accepted. He went ahead to win this match with a Batista Bomb but not after being brutally bashed and bloody in the ring. This was the first time anyone had ever beaten Triple H at 3 consecutive pay-per-views and a Hell in a Cell match. On the 30th June, 2005 Batista was revealed as the last Draft Lottery pick and was sent to SmackDown. He rocked up during a celebration JBL was having after winning the 6 man elimination match for the SmackDown Championship. Teddy Long then said as Batista was the new face of SmackDown there was no need for the old championship and it was scrapped. This then set up the fued between JBL and Batista. They faced each other the following month on the 24th of July at the Great American Bash for the championship. JBL won after Batista was DQ’d for using a steel chair. At Summerslam on the 21st of August, 2005 they had a re-match for the title in a No Holds Barred match but Batista came out the victor once again Batista Bombing JBL into the steel steps in the middle of the ring. On the 9th of September, 2005 on SmackDown Batista went up against JBl in a Bloody Bull Rope Match. It was touch and go whether he would win but in the end Batista came out on top with a Batista Bomb before touching the corner to win.Next was the fued between him and Eddie Guerrero , this fued didn’t last long though because of Eddies untimely death a few weeks later on the 13th of November, 2005. On the 11th November taping Raw invaded SmackDown and in the process Batista ended up getting hurt after being double chokeslammed by the Big Show and Kane. The result of this was a torn muscle in the back.Batista then started to team up with Rey Mysterio and on the 30th December, 2005 they went up against MNM for the tag team titles and won. This was dashed though with the revelation from Melina saying she had been sexually assaulted by Batista backstage. So the next week on SmackDown the 6th January, 2006 she got her best friend and bodyguard Mark Henry to interfere in a steel cage match he and Rey had against MNM for their tag team titles . Mark Henry attacked Batista with the worlds strongest slam leaving him motionless in the ring while MNM nailed Rey for the victory. It was made to look as though Mark had caused Batista’s injury so that on the following week of SmackDown Batista could relinquish his title easily. This didn’t come easily I might add and on the 16th of January, 2006 Batista handed it over to Teddy Long saying he had to be sidelined indefinitely while he had surgery to repair his torn tricep. It was an emotional night for all even Dave. Many in the crowd could be seen crying and the looks of disbelief were plenty. Dave had held the championship for 280 days surpassing Triple H’s record by 2 days.On the 12th January, 2006, Dave went on to have successful surgery on his right torn tricep muscle. On the 19th February, 2006 Batista made a brief appearance at No Way Out and Wrestlemania 22 saying that when he did return he would regain his title once more.Batista made his official televised return on the 6th July, 2006 calling out the man who supposedly put him out of action for 6 months, Mark Henry. This was to start a fued which was suppose to last for the next few months but at Saturday’s Main Event in a bizarre twist of fate Mark Henry was legitimately injured in a 6 man tag team match with Mark/Booker T/ Finlay vs Batista/Lashley/Rey. Batista won the match by Batista Bombing Booker. The scheduled match which was to take place between Batista and Mark Henry at The Great American Bash on the 23rd July, 2006, it then had to be cancelled. Batista then put out an open challenge which was answered by Ken Kennedy. This match ended up in a DQ because Dave refused to stop choking Kennedy into the turnbuckle with his boot. Kennedy suffered a severe laceration to his forehead which required 20 stitches to close. Batista then went on to lose a match to Kennedy via count-out but overcome him on the 4th August, 2006 at a SmackDown show. He won by pinfall. After this Batista went on to face The Big Show on ECW for his title but lost. He also went up against King Booker countless times over the following months both on SmackDown and at Summerslam to try and regain his title back . But each time he did the match always ended up in a DQ because King Booker or one of his followers cheated. During this time he also had a short fued with Finlay .Finally after a 10 month odyssey, on the 26th November, 2006 at the Wachovia Centre in Philadelphia, at Survivor Series Batista finally defeated King Booker in front of a sold-out crowd of 17, 893 WWE fans to become World Heavyweight Champion once again. It was a very emotional night one I’m sure he and us fans will never forget.Batista would continue to fued with Finlay and King Booker over the title throught-out the rest of 2006 ending it at Armageddon where he had a tag team match with Cena versing King Booker and Finlay. Batista won by pinning King Booker after a thunderous Batista Bomb.Mr Kennedy won the round the clock sprint on SmackDown and went up against Dave at the Royal Rumble for the Title but once again, The Animal came out on top. Batista survived a formidable challenge from a motivated Mr. Kennedy en route to retaining his prized World Heavyweight Championship. The cocky loudmouth came in with a game plan, and did everything he could to follow it through to its completion. Kennedy was able to wound The Animal’s leg, opening the door for a number of near-falls, but in the end, it wasn’t meant to be. Batista was able to regain control and put his challenger away with a thunderous Batista Bomb. That night also Undertaker was to win the Royal Rumble and so start a short lived fued with Dave.On SmackDown a few weeks later Batista demanded to know who Taker was to go up against at Mania but before he could get an answer Cena and HBK came out followed up closely by Mr McMahon, who announced a blockbuster match involving all four men for No Way Out on February 18. That match incidentally ended with Batista giving The Undertaker a spinebuster in the ring, before walking out on him, leaving Cena and HBK to grab the victory. This all happened because a few days earlier on a Monday night edition of Raw, The Deadman came out to all three Champions in the ring Batista/Cena and Lashley at the time and gave them his answer..He made a demonic gesture towards Batista and signified his WrestleMania intentions as WWE fans roared in approval. A few minutes later, the Phenom would make an emphatic statement, Chokeslamming Batista to the mat and laying the groundwork for what could be one of the most intense matches of each man’s storied career.A couple of days later on the 23rd of February edition of SmackDown Batista came out and explained to the WWE fans the reasons for his actions at No Way Out, when he Spinebustered Undertaker, causing the duo to lose their tag team match versus John Cena & Shawn Michaels.“I cannot apologize for what I did at No Way Out,†said Batista. “Undertaker, we are even. Now we can go on to WrestleMania and give WWE fans a match they’ll never forget.†He continued, “I respect you Undertaker, but I am not intimidated by anyone.â€A week later The Phenom sent an ominous message of his own to the World Heavyweight Champion - Batista. While The Animal stood in the centre of the ring reiterating his comments from last week, the champion was interrupted when the sold-out HP Pavilion arena in San Jose, Calif. went dark, and Undertaker was shown standing in a cemetery, digging a grave."Batista, for some, WrestleMania is heaven on earth, but for you it is going to be hell," said Undertaker. "At WrestleMania, your reign as champion will rest in peace."The World Heavyweight Champion Batista was left speechless by the actions and words of Undertaker. The following week Dave went up against the Big Red Monster Kane but came out victorious with a Batista Bomb to end the match. Two weeks after this Dave was a guest on Miz TV but after The Miz insulted Batista by saying, “I don’t think you can stop Undertaker,†the young SmackDown Superstar played an early April Fool’s joke on The Animal, having paid someone to turn out the lights and play Undertaker’s music. The World Heavyweight Champion was not amused, and had the last laugh, delivering an explosive Batista Bomb.Later in the night, Batista sat ringside on commentary as Undertaker faced King Booker in one-on-one action. With Undertaker poised to capture a victory, Finlay interfered with the shillelagh, and he and Booker double-teamed the Phenom as Batista looked on. Undertaker fought back and dismantled Finlay and King Booker, and then threw the Irishman into Batista. After laying King Booker out, Undertaker walked his way up the ramp and turned to see an angry Batista staring at him from the ring.A week later though Dave got his revenge on The Undertaker . The Animal was scheduled to team with his WrestleMania opponent Undertaker to take on King Booker and Finlay, but was attacked from behind, leaving Undertaker to face the former United States Champion Finlay and former World Heavyweight Champion King Booker alone.Undertaker seemed to be firmly in control during his match, but Finlay used the shillelagh, causing a disqualification and allowing the Irishman and King Booker to double team the Phenom. The Animal rushed to the ring to aid Undertaker, and they looked to be working together to dismantle Finlay and Booker. However, moments later Batista launched King Booker into Undertaker, undoubtedly payback for last week when Undertaker tossed Finlay into the World Heavyweight Champion. The following weeks Raw saw Batista and The Undertaker go up against Cena and HBK in a No Way Out Rematch. As The Deadman tossed HBK at The Animal, it looked like Cena and HBK’s double team would lead them to victory. After the two Superstars delivered a unified five-knuckle shuffle, The Showstopper dropped Cena with a powerful kick to the head but Batista covered Cena to pick up the win.The following SmackDown on the 29 March saw JBL and Teddy Long trying to conduct an interview between Dave and the Undertaker but this ended up in an all out brawl between both men. As much as security and officials tried, they could not stop the intense fight. Batista looked to gain an edge heading into WrestleMania, as he delivered a Spinebuster to Undertaker. The Deadman rose up as the confrontation between these two men had gone past the point of tension, steamrolling right into a violent conflict. The following Sunday was to be won of the most anticipated matches of the year The Animal vs The Phenom at Wrestlemania 23.And the Undertaker did the unbelievable by taking his undefeated WrestleMania streak to 15-0 costing Dave his title in the process. Not only did he break his own record, but he also captured his first World Heavyweight Championship by delivering a Tombstone Piledriver to Batista for the win. With so much on the line, it seemed like The Deadman would do anything to ensure a win, even before he stepped out into the arena. Preceded by 24 druids with flaming torches, Undertaker’s unmistakable form emerged from the smoke, and more than 80,000 WWE fans erupted for The Phenom.Batista took an early lead in the match when he speared Undertaker right out of the gate. The Animal fought Undertaker out of the ring, and executed a running power slam off one of the announce tables onto another. The Phenom was clearly stunned, but managed to hang on through several pin attempts and continued to fight back.Having been victorious through 14 previous WrestleManias, Undertaker knows a thing or two about surviving, and used it to his advantage. The Phenom benefited from the situation, and was able to turn the match around with the Last Ride. After an exchange of several devastating attacks, including a Batista Bomb, Undertaker sealed his victory with a Tombstone Piledriver to keep his WrestleMania streak alive. The following week on SmackDown Batista came out and congratulated the Undertaker on his win at Mania and then asked for his re-match which Teddy Long gave him at Backlash two weeks later. This was to be a Last Man Standing match.. Later that night though he tagged with The Phenom against Finlay and Kennedy, and scored a victory against Kennedy with a Batista Bomb for the win.The 400th episode of SmackDown on the 20th of April emanated for the very first time from il Bel Paese (the Beautiful Country)Milan, Italy. Batista kicked off the show in action against Finlay, and as The Animal looked in full control, Mr. Kennedy interfered, causing the disqualification. Kennedy & Finlay then physically dismantled Batista with help from the shillelagh and a Celtic Cross from the Irishman. On the final stop of their successful European tour, World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker and Backlash opponent Batista were both dominant in a No Disqualification Tag Team Match, just days before their Last Man Standing Match on pay-per-view. After disposing of Mr. Kennedy & Finlay, The Animal told The Phenom that as far as the title is concerned, “I’m taking it back.†The champion had a message of his own for Batista, telling him, “Sunday, I will take your soul.â€Earlier in the night, Mr. Kennedy & Finlay tried to once again dismantle The Animal, attacking him in the aisle as SmackDown began. Batista held his own until the two focused their assault on The Animal's wounded and taped right leg. Suddenly, the arena went black and Undertaker appeared in the center of the ring sending the dangerous duo of Mr. Money in the Bank and the Irishman back to the locker room.Moments later, Kennedy & Finlay implored General Manager Theodore Long to put The Deadman and Batista in action against each other. Long showed his GM power by putting the Backlash opponents in action – but against Finlay & Kennedy. In a brutally physical No DQ match, Finlay & Kennedy concentrated on the heavily bandaged right leg of The Animal – a leg beaten badly by the shillelagh last week. However, The Phenom delivered Chokeslams to both Mr. Kennedy & Finlay, and looked poised to get the win for his team, but Batista decided to make a statement of his own. He came into the ring, sent Finlay to the mat with a devastating Spinebuster, and then pinned him to get the victory.World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker and Batista both walked into Philips Arena, Atlanta on April 29th with plans of victory in the Last Man Standing Match, where the key to victory is to incapacitate your opponent to the point where they cannot answer a 10-count from the referee. However, both men were left battered and beaten, unable to answer referee Mickie Henson’s 10-count – resulting in a draw. (In the case of a draw, the championship leaves the same way it arrived, with the champion.)In an incredibly brutal Last Man Standing Match, both The Phenom and The Animal pushed each other to the edge, and in the end, after numerous nail-biting nine-counts, neither was able to answer the count. A powerful spear from Batista sent both men flying off the Backlash stage and crashing to the ground below them causing the draw – and keeping the title with Undertaker. On the following weeks SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long announced that the following Friday World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker and Batista would face off in a Steel Cage Match. Following the announcement, a wounded Batista told the World Heavyweight Champion, “at Backlash, we pushed each other to the limit. Then we went past the limit. Nothing is resolved.†He continued, “is the World Heavyweight Championship worth all this destruction? Hell yes.†The Animal then had a promise for Undertaker, saying, “next week, in a 15-foot high cage, I will win back my title.â€The Deadman had a message of his own for his challenger, telling Batista, “I took your soul at Backlash. I took your health.†Undertaker then assured him, “next Friday when you step into the demon’s playground, you will rest in peace.â€But in PITTSBURGH on the 11.05.07 both men escaped the cage at exactly the same time ending the match in a draw. Just after this Mark Henry came out and attacked The Phenom leaving him battered and bruised in the ring and then Edge came out and cashed in his MITB Briefcase which he had obtained of Kennedy on the previous Monday night Raw..This was now to start the Batista/Edge fued.Batista confronted Edge the following week on SmackDown during his inaugural address and said that at Judgment Day that title would be his. But ever the opportunist, Edge took advantage of Batista’s injured leg, rolling up the wounded Animal to retain his World Heavyweight Championship at Judgment Day in St Louis on the 18th May.On SmackDown in DES MOINES, Iowa - In a contest involving four of SmackDown’s premiere athletes, Batista literally speared his way through Finlay, Kane and Mark Henry to secure a rematch with World Heavyweight Champion Edge. This time, however, their meeting grounds will be within a 15-foot steel cage on an evening purely consisting of Extreme Rules confrontations at One Night Stand. If it’s one thing that was clear from Edge’s expression at ringside Friday night, it’s that the Rated-R Superstar is not pleased that The Animal emerged from the Fatal Four Way Match as the No. 1 contender to his gold.JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In the final instants of One Night Stand’s hellacious Steel Cage Match, Batista crawled head-first through the doorway and touched the outside floor with his hands. For a moment, The Animal believed he had reclaimed the elusive World Heavyweight Championship, as did an elated sold-out crowd inside the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. However, across the opposite end of the cage, Edge capitalized on Batista’s seeming moment of victory to finish climbing down and plant both feet outside the steel structure—a mandatory stipulation from which the ultimate opportunist capitalized to retain his World Heavyweight Title.Batista had one last chance to get the title back and this was at Vengeance on June 24th. Mr. McMahon had made a match stipulation — if Batista lost at Vengeance: Night of Champions, he could no longer challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship so long as it remained secure around Edge’s waist. Where others might have wilted from this “win-or-go-home†proviso, The Animal relished it, and was determined to make the most of his last chance.Almost immediately, the Last Chance Match proved as brutal as Edge and Batista’s previous two encounters. The warriors countered each other’s fiercest attacks, only to grow increasingly frustrated when they couldn’t capitalize for any longer than a two-count. That is, until Batista counteracted a Rated-R spear with one of his own. With The Animal going for the kill with his Batista Bomb, a desperate Edge floored him with a low blow in plain sight of the referee. The official called for the bell, awarding the match to the challenger via disqualification, which was exactly what the Ultimate Opportunist had intended; knowing the title couldn’t change hands by way of a disqualification, he walked up the ramp, content that his reign as World Heavyweight Champion remained intact.Like our fans in the sold-out Toyota Center, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long was far from satisfied with the outcome. Therefore, despite the Rated-R Superstar’s irate protests, Long ordered the referee to restart the Last Chance Match, then decreed that if Edge got himself disqualified again, he would lose his World Heavyweight Title. The Ultimate Opportunist raced back into the ring to steal a quick pinfall, but not even one of his most powerful spears could put The Animal down for good. Before long, Batista sent his adversary sailing out of the ring, then met him with a Batista Bomb that may well have cracked the outside floor.Unfortunately for Batista, that’s when his certain victory fell victim to an unfortunate 10-count defeat. The battle-weary Animal not only had to struggle back to his feet, he had to lift Edge’s completely limp body and roll it back into the ring in order to pin him. And pin him he would have…had Batista gotten back inside just before the referee counted 10. Unfortunately, history is defined by mere moments in time, and in this instance, history would prove unkind one last time for The Animal.Visibly dejected by the fateful decision, Batista vented his Animal rage one last time, planting Edge to the canvas with a second Batista Bomb. He then left ringside, disheartened by the knowledge that when Edge finally woke up, it would still be as World Heavyweight Champion…while he would no longer be a contender for the title. His only chance to ever wear the World Heavyweight gold again now must lie with someone else, someone who can do what The Animal couldn’t in three valiant efforts: take down the Ultimate Opportunist. On the June 29th edition of SmackDown Much to his disappointment, Edge was forced by acting General Manager Vickie Guerrero to face Batista in a Night of Champions rematch. Even though he is not eligible to win the World Heavyweight Championship, The Animal ran wild on Edge in the main event. After punishing the Rated-R Superstar throughout much of the contest, Batista foiled his plans for a spear when he turned it into a setup for an earth-shaking Batista Bomb, following by a three-count.On July 13th, after The Great Khali came to SmackDown in the official WWE Draft he offered an open challenge for the Great American Bash. Hearing this Batista came out and took up the offer and made it official by having a contract signing on this night. Batista offered a handshake when the two Superstars rose from their seats, but when The Great Khali refused it, The Animal slapped him across the face. Batista may not be quite as tall as his opponent, but he is big enough to strike fear in the giant, who fled the ring. Displaying his power, The Great Khali tore the stairs away from ringside and threw them into the squared circle, only to have them returned via airmail along with every chair and a table. The following week Edge had to relinquish the World Heavyweight Championship due to injury and it was put up for grabs in a 20 man battle royal. The Great Khali was the one to outlast everyone else and become the new World Heavyweight Champion but however, after interfering in a No. 1 Contender’s Match between Batista and Kane that night, the colossus was told he would face both The Animal and the Big Red Machine in a Triple Threat Match at the GAB. But no matter how hard they tried Khali retained the championship after pinning Kane for the 1,2,3.The following week on the 27th July edition of SmackDown, The Great Khali decided to have a victory championship celebration but Batista came to crash the party. The Animal – who dominated earlier that evening in singles competition against WWE Tag Team Champion Deuce – never took his rage-filled eyes off the 7-foot-3 monster as he challenged him to a one-on-one match for the World Heavyweight Championship. When Khali rejected his request, Batista exploded and speared the champion. In Phoenix the following week The Great Khali and his translator, Ranjin Singh, who stormed out to complain how his Punjabi “Championship Celebration†had been ruined the week before by Batista. An irate Long put his managerial foot down, ordering the giant World Heavyweight Champion to put his title on the line against The Animal at SummerSlam. So the angered 7-foot-3 monster later took his frustrations out by disrupting Batista & Ric Flair’s non-title match against WWE Tag Team Champions Deuce & Domino. And the “Nature Boy†would feel the frightening fury of the colossal champion and his newest hand-weapon, a devastating claw to the skull.YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Before a capacity crowd at the Chevrolet Centre, fury and aggression dominated SmackDown Friday night, building momentum to the Biggest Party of the Summer. A fired-up Batista started things off by taking his rage out on co-WWE Tag Team Champion Domino in one-on-one action, hitting Batista Bombs to score the pinfall and to punish his opponent’s interfering accomplice, Deuce. A video message from World Heavyweight Champion The Great Khali then appeared, warning The Animal that he would fall victim to the Claw at SummerSlam, just like Ric Flair did on SmackDown a week before. Later that night, the “Nature Boy†had his mind set on revenge for that previous vicious attack attack by Khali; however, despite a valiant effort, even the 16-time World Champion couldn’t stop the newest weapon in the Punjabi giant’s awesome arsenal. After The Great Khali’s enormous hand forcefully clutched onto Flair’s skull and forced him to the canvas, The Animal sprinted to his mentor’s aid. Amazingly, though, even The Animal seemed unable to halt the champion’s powerful vice-like grip, and ended up lying beside his fallen friend. So on Sunday August 26th at Summerslam The Animal and the Punjabi Giant went head to head. He blocked the Khali Vise Grip. He kicked out of a pinfall after a thunderous Khali Bomb. He even took the 7-foot-3, 420-pound Great Khali off his feet with an unbelievable spinebuster and went on to win the match. The one thing Batista didn’t do at SummerSlam? Win the World Heavyweight Championship. While The Animal won his battle with The Great Khali at SummerSlam, the victory came by disqualification, meaning that the Punjabi powerhouse retained the richest prize on SmackDown. After the bout, however, weeks of pent-up aggression – coupled with the frustration of what happened moments before – led to Batista unloading on Khali with the same weapon that got the champion disqualified.Batista’s main objective for success was to avoid the punishing Khali Vise Grip. While the Punjabi powerhouse battered him from pillar to post for most of the match, The Animal was able to do exactly that. And when Batista hoisted Khali up and dropped him with a thunderous spinebuster, it looked as if The Animal was finally on his way to becoming a three-time World Heavyweight Champion.Khali had other ideas, however. After his Batista Bomb attempt was shrugged off, The Animal climbed to the top rope and leapt at the World Heavyweight Champion, only to be caught and dropped with a towering Khali Bomb. It looked grim, but when Batista kicked out of Khali’s pinfall, the capacity crowd let out a raucous cheer – and the expression on the champion’s face went from confidence to shock.Translator Ranjin Singh must have understood his client’s body language, as he then tossed a steel chair into the ring. Referee Mickie Henson tried to stop Khali, but the towering champion easily pushed him away before landing a punishing blow across the back of the challenger. Immediately, Henson called for the bell, disqualifying Khali and disappointing everyone in the arena – including Batista.Once the official announcement was made, Khali tried to continue his attack. Instead, Batista avoided his second steely swing and speared the Punjabi powerhouse. After staring at his prey for a brief moment, The Animal recovered the chair and took out his frustrations by unloading nearly a dozen shots across the back and shoulders of the massive champion.Unfortunately, it was too little too late, as the damage had already been done; Batista had won the match, but The Great Khali was still the World Heavyweight Champion. But while The Animal may have left the Biggest Party of the Summer with an empty waist, he did leave the World Heavyweight Champion with the knowledge that their issue is far from settled.Batista Appearances-
Nothing Scheduled at this timeBatista on WWE Rollin'Dave Batista has been “The Animal†since childhood, in temper if not in name. Raised in a rough part of southeast Washington, D.C., he describes himself as being “a skinny kid with asthma and a bad size complexâ€â€” and a penchant for getting into trouble with authorities. He spent a few years in San Francisco after his parents separated, until his mother sent the troubled teen to live with his father in suburban Virginia. By the time he turned 17, he was estranged from both parents, living on his own, and still getting into trouble. For the better part of 10 years, Batista spent his days training and competing as a bodybuilder, and his nights “bouncing in clubs, floating from here to there.†(He’s still amazed that one club he worked at is less than two blocks from Washington D.C.’s MCI Center, where he defended his World Heavyweight Championship against JBL at SummerSlam in 2005.) His drifting stopped the night he unleashed his explosive temper on two patrons who had attacked his fellow bouncers. “By the time I was finished with them,†he relates, “they were lying on the ground with their eyes rolling in the back of their heads. I was very scared they were going to die.†They didn’t, but the incident did result in Batista’s arrest, a year’s probation, and his decision to make radical changes in his life. Enrolling in Wild Samoan Afa’s wrestling school in Allentown, Pa., Batista admits that at first he saw sports-entertainment simply as “a way to make a livingâ€â€” until he was told at a WCW tryout that he didn’t have the chops to make it as a wrestler. “That lit a fire under my a**. Wrestling became an obsession that I fell in love with. I completely redirected my training and philosophies, redesigned my body and mental outlook. I just really wanted to be an athlete and an entertainer.†Though his personal perseverance brought him to WWE in May 2002, Batista credits former Evolution colleagues Triple H and Ric Flair with developing “a muscleheaded goofball†into a World Heavyweight Champion, one who backs his composed words and demeanor with an explosive fury befitting his nickname. He considers himself neither a leader nor a follower in the locker room (“I’m just a loner, I keep to myself,†he insists), but inside the ring, on the covers of muscle mags like FLEX, and even once against budding Superman Tom Welling on The CW Network series Smallville, “The Animal†is clearly a dominant species. A dominant species who, by the way, has collected more than 50 vintage tin lunchboxes. Our advice: respect this six-foot-five, 285-pound beast and his 1967 Green Hornet sandwich container (sporting Bruce Lee’s face on the front), which he cherishes among his most prized possessions. You’ll live longer. WWE.Com
