As a producer, Curtis released his first record entitled “The Tone Depth EP†on Nervous Dog Records in 2000, which earned him rave reviews in music periodicals such as Mixer Magazine and was supported by some of the industry’s most celebrated talent such as DJ/Producer Danny Tenaglia. Over the next several years, Curtis placed most of his musical focus on his production & remixing skills, which lead to several releases & remixes on labels such as SFP Records, Slaag Records, Star 69 Records, Harlem Traxx, Loop 128 Records and Magna Recordings just to name a few. In 2002, Curtis teamed up with famous vocalist Alan T to create the hit singles “Strange Shades Of Lightâ€, “Space Jam†and “Jungle Juice†on SFP Records & Anodyne Record. These tracks appeared on several mixed CD compilations for labels such as Azuli, Warner Music, Ministry Of Sound, Harlequin Recording Group, Centaur Records and SPG Records. The US release of “Space Jam†on Harlequin Records, plus remixes for Dawn Tallman’s “Heavenly Light†on Slaag Records, and remixes to Industry’s “Release Me†and Bob Sinclair’s “Kiss My Eyes†on Star 69 Records all lead to his first appearances on the Billboard Dance Charts.
In 2006, Curtis teamed up with colleague DJ/Producer Rick Corbo to produce another top ten Billboard remix for Amber’s “Just Like That†on JMCA Records. He also started his own digital record label entitled SoundGroove Records. Since its inception, SoundGroove Records has quickly become one of the industry’s top digital labels. The label has already produced a top 5 Billboard remix single for Maya Azucena’s “Make It Happen†through a license courtesy of Kult Records, while several other tracks from the label have been licensed to vinyl on Loop 128 Records (Pedro Diaz) & Bimotor DJ (D-Lav, Shlavens & Craig Mitchell) and on CD compilations mixed by Carl Cox & DJ Simi, DeMarko, John Rizzo, Mike Cruz, Roland Belarmes and Junior Vasquez.
In 2007, Curtis achieved one of his musical milestones by topping the Billboard Dance Chart for the first time with a remix to “Party People†by Altar and Jeanie Tracy, courtesy of Mamahouse Records. He’s also teamed up with Lula, the legendary voice from the speaker, to create produce Midnight Society’s thirteenth single entitled “Drum Nationâ€, already poised to become one of the year’s biggest tribal anthems.
With a solid production & remix foundation in place, Curtis Atchison returns his focus onto his DJ work to further spread the Midnight Society sound that has captured the attention of many big name DJs and house music fans across the globe. Curtis fuses tribal percussion & progressive grooves, with the right balance of twisted, tech house and emotionally, charged vocals to weave together an eclectic & intriguing sound that packs dance floors and keeps the party jumping. He has been the headliner to several major venues in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Miami Beach, Palm Springs, San Francisco & Los Angeles, and has performed in numerous international gigs in Portugal, Mexico City, Montréal, Toronto and even Cambodia.
With a successful music career that stretches over a combined total of 17 years, DJ/Producer Curtis Atchison has proven that he has the right style and tenacity to make it far in the music industry. And with the better years still ahead of him, one can only wonder just how far he will continue the climb up the ladder of success.
