"The Flat". Those words echoed on forever throughout the 80's in high school and on the street. A party every night, word spread like fire that this was the premiere party place of Lake County. Soon Kenoshans joined the party.
The Flat started out as the rehearsal room for "Abstract" in 1987 and by March of 1989, the band Knightserrant was the last band to practice there. During it's time, there were parties pretty much every night. Birthdays were always welcomed. We had barrels, not kegs, but barrels of beer, great music, pretty girls,a stage, pool table, and more girls :) In March of 1989, Mark Bellicon sold the building to another lawyer. Mark was a Lawyer on the 2nd floor. We moved to a place next to Deena Villalobos in Zion, which became the building for practice for Scott Lucas and his band Local H. Our last day at the Flat, we signed the wall at the head of the stairs. One year later, Keith Smith was back at the Flat as an electrician. The new owner another lawyer, was remodeling the 3rd floor as an apartment and his new entertainment pad. Our signatures were still there.
Then there's the story with the fire extinguishers, but that's another story.
Ironically, later in 1989, Keith Smith started a new band in Kenosha, 3 doors down from the Three Coins restraurant, which also happened to be another practice room, previously rented by none other than "Abstract".More later......Iron Maiden - Wasted Years
