An unintended victim of the city's then out of control gang violence, Moore was caught in the crossfire and shot three times by gang members as she talked with friends on the front steps of her tenement in the Boston's Dorchester neighborhood. The shooting was covered in both the local and national press, and Moore's face came to symbolize Boston's epidemic of gang violence at the time.
