Did you know that there are over 60 Millions Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse in the US today? Incredible right? Well my name is Veronica Thomas and I am the president and founder, of S.N.V. Inc. (Survivors Not Victims) of sexual abuse and author of the book Visions From The Past (A True Story) which is an autobiography of my own personal childhood sexual abuse. This organization is geared towards helping women, men and children of sexual abuse realize that there is life and success after abuse. This organization will provide support, and a place of understanding and knowledge of their situation. To give comfort and to let you know that you are not alone and that we are there for you. To let you know that you do not have to choose to be victims, that you have the God given choice to be a successful Survivor. Sexual Abuse is more common than anyone wants to admit or except. You probably already know someone who has experienced this abuse, regardless of whether it was a female, child or even a male young or old or if you just heard it on the news. Some of you can't begin to imagine the depth of emotion that a person experiences after being raped. Feelings of loneliness, despair, spiritual loss, a loss of self-esteem and many, many more emotional stresses, in fact too many to name. This organization will be providing workshops aimed at rebuilding lives and spirituality. I am calling for strong, positive, successful men, women and teenagers who are SURVIVORS of sexual abuse, to come forward and help me in this endeavor. I need your assistance in changing someones life after such a devastating experience. For most of these people, just knowing that there are others out there who can identify with them and the emotions they are feeling is more important than anything; to know that they can overcome any barrier that sexual abuse or any abuse can cause and become the successful individual that God intended them to be. Imagine the difference this could make in someone's life. Maybe your very own. Being a survivor myself, I am not rich by far, but I am successful with the things I have accomplished and the people I have in my life. I have my family and my many wonderful friends. I graduated from college with my bachelors degree, soon to return for my Masters degree. And completed and published my book on my experiences with childhood sexual assault. These are my successes in life. I need you, other survivors to share your successes in life so that others will know it is possible. To let them know that: WE WILL NOT ALLOW OUR PAST TO DETER, HINDER, STOP, BREAK US OR PREVENT US FROM BEING THE SUCCESSFUL INDIVIDUALS THAT GOD INTENDED US TO BE. That WE ARE SURVIVORS NOT VICTIMS. The organization just had its first major event at the King Lincoln Park June 22nd in Newport News. It turned out great. We had entertainment provided by local entertainers such as Nut-N-2-Loze Entertainment, Tootie, Philly, L. Timez and Maria, Black Alley entertainment and others and the famous David Williams who has played Lead Guitarist for Michael Jackson for the last 30years as well as with Madonna and Mariah Carey. We had rides for the kids and free food for the kids as well. We even had two skits performed showing children and parents preventative measures of sexual abuse situations that they can find themselves in. So those of you that are survivors, come and join us in this endeavor.
