About Me

Geek are a punk-rock band from Leeds/Bradford, who like to play short songs as quickly as possible. They look like rejects from University Challenge, and have taken their name to reclaim a term of insult, so that no man, woman or nerd shall ever again have to suffer the indignity of playground jibes.
Originally formed in the mid-90's, Geek spent their formative years rehearsing in a church and a garage (not at the same time) and avoiding public exposure. Post-millenium, the band experienced a trauma of faith and got distracted by other things for a few years. Fast-forward to early 2007, and, having realised that life would rob them of their youth, beauty, and talent faster than it would reward their procrastination, Geek reformed (with a new bass player, having lost a member to astrophysics - there is a reality behind the myth.) With the sole intent to resurrect their teenage dreams of appearing on Top Of The Pops (which no longer exists, but no matter), the guys played their first gig 'proper' at The Cardigan Arms, Leeds, on September 14th 2007. Since then they have played at several venues around Leeds and Bradford, and have been voted semi-finalists in a Battle of the Bands competition.
Geek are currently working on a self-recorded EP, and have already produced a video for one of their songs, 'Julie'.

Hyde Park Heat, Nov 2007:

"Worth much more than the sum of their parts, Geek achieve credibility to some extent through their simplicity. The lyrical tales of girls loved & lost (coupled with the connotations of the band name) give them a somewhat Weezer-esque outlook on the world, but they also have a punk-rock-authenticity that comes with the gritty, live production sound. The gang vocals are great in places, even if they would sometimes be better doing harmonies, rather than just singing along in unison. The songs are real growers & after a couple of listens it becomes apparent how clever the guitar work is behind the big catchy riffs that hit you the first time round. Very human in both words & music, & human works for me."
