********************************************JUNE 15 2006 FIGHTNEWS.COM Light Heavyweight Dhafir “No Fear” Smith opened the evening with a dominant four-round unanimous decision over fellow Philadelphian, Lamont “the Destroyer” Cooper.Cooper opened the bout with wild hooks that forced Smith to clinch behind his left jabs. Smith started to time Cooper’s wild lunges late in round one and returned fire with stiff left jabs and a few counter left hooks.Smith began to work the soft under belly of Cooper in round two. The body work took its toll on Cooper, who stopped his lunges. Smith landed two thudding lefts over the top in round two as Cooper missed wildly.Cooper looked gassed as round three began and Smith took advantage with three consecutive left hooks. Smith was now in control with his jab, while all Cooper could do was swing and miss wildly.Late in round three, a counter left sent Cooper on the seat of his pants. Cooper was able to get to his feet and was again caught with a huge left that turned him around, but he would not go down and survived the round. Smith, ahead on the cards, out-boxed an exhausted Cooper in fourth and final stanza. The fight went to the judges scorecards and all three judges had it in favor of Smith 40-35 respectively. Smith evens his record 14-14-3, 3 KO’s, while Cooper slips to 6-14-1, 0 KO’s ............................................................ .......................................................... OCTOBER 21, 2006 http://boxingalongthebeltway.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive .html .................Fightnews.com Report on Pikesville! For those who couldn't get the audio post-fight show from Pikesville last night, here is a written account of the pro events courtesy of one of my Fightnews.com writing partners, Julian Burgower.Sometimes in the sport of boxing there are decisions that make you scratch your head, get you angry or make some people cry out in protest. Such was not the case in the eight-round majority draw between Mike"The Persecutor" Paschall and Dhafir “No Fear” Smith, fought at the Pikesville Armory in Baltimore, MD, last night.Paschall, 165, came into the bout with an undefeated record of 10-0 (2), and seemed to take the first few rounds by slightly outworking the veteran Smith, 163, did not seem to want to open up and throw many punches. As the rounds wore on, Paschall started more and more showboating, jumping in and out with wild clubbing swings and fighting out of a style reminiscent the stance of a Muay Thai kickboxer. In the fifth round of the scheduled eight, Smith, Philadelphia, PA, was able to become more affective in his aggressiveness and slow down Paschall’s movement in stalking down the Pasadena, MD native and connecting with hard shots to the head. The seventh round showed Paschall settling down and attempting to fight more than showboat, which probably saved him from losing the fight, as he connected with wild haymaker-type shots that won him the round, although they were not especially damaging to Smith. Both fighters came out of their corners in the eighth and final round knowing that it would decide the outcome of the fight, and both threw caution to the wind. The wind though, appeared to die down in Paschall’s sails faster than it did in Smith’s, who was able to close the show stronger and with more zest, cutting Paschall’s left eye in the process. The pro-Paschall hometown crowd booed as the scores of 77-75 (Paschall), 76-76 (twice) were announced, resulting in a majority draw decision. Fightnews scored the contest 76-76, with Paschall dropping his record to 10-0-1 (2) and Smith 15-13-1 (4). ............................................................ ............................................................ .... 5-14-2007 WWW.BOXINGSCENE.COM ............. In the scheduled 8-round main event presented by Goossen Tutor Promotions and Roy Jones, Jr’s Square Ring Promotions, the Oakland native will take on Dhafir Smith (16-15-5, 3 KOs) of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania.Managed by James Prince and trained by Virgil Hunter, the 23-year old Ward is coming off a third-round stoppage of Julio Jean back in March in San Jose. In his two previous appearances at the Tachi Palace, Ward registered decision wins over Kenny Kost (Ward’s second pro fight in February, 2005) and Kendall Gould (in February of last year). In the 24-year old Smith, Ward will be facing a resilient opponent who has only been stopped twice in 36 pro bouts, and has battled to an astounding five draws, including one against Omar Pittman in Pennsylvania his last time out in January.Nicknamed “No Fear,” for his reckless abandon inside the ring, Smith has fared well against his last two opponents who came into the ring with undefeated records. He recently won a decision from Henry Mayes (5-0) last August and two months later he fought to an impressive draw with Mike Paschall (10-0).“There’s no fear in Dhafir,” declared Smith in reference to his nickname. “I fear no man in the ring, and that includes Olympic gold medal winners and undefeated prospects. My performance rises to the level of my competition, so I expect to give a good one against Ward.”.................................................... ............................................................ ......
