Upon graduating from High School in a small town near Lubbock, TX, Derrick McCullough attended Texas Tech University and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and Percussion performance. In his years there, he gained experience in many ensembles including Percussion Ensemble, Marching Band, Steel Drum Band, Jazz band and Orchestra. He also played percussion in several regional symphonies in Texas and drumset for local country and rock bands. While at Texas Tech, Derrick was also able to instruct several drum-lines in Lubbock and the surrounding area.Derrick and his wife, Kerri, moved to Indianapolis in 2004 where Derrick received his Masters Degree in Music Technology from Indiana University. He was an assistant teacher to the great “Prof Lane†for a year, directing the Urban Drum Ensemble and teaching private conga lessons. Following this, Derrick gained an internship in recording at Aireborn Recording Group in Zionsville, IN. where he assisted in recording sessions large and small.While in Indianapolis, Derrick worked as a freelance instructor, percussionist, and recording engineer in the Indianapolis area. He has engineered and played percussion for large concert band and orchestra sessions for the publishing company, Hal Leonard, under the direction of producers John Higgins, and Paul Lavender. Most recently, Derrick was credited as the Assistant Audio Technician for Gospel Superfest 4 in New York. Gospel Superfest is a television special that usually reaches around 95 million homes nation wide. He also played drums for a notable Brazilian band in Indianapolis called, Ipanema.Now residing in Nashville, Tennessee, Derrick is eager to work as a drummer, teacher, and recordist.
