Siva was spawned from the ripe loins of independent artist Terry Hart whose career has spanned from session work with some of Melbourne’s greatest artistic commodities, to his own intimate acoustic performances in venues throughout Australia. But Terry’s greed driven nature (wink wink) got the better of him. From hilltops to deep ravines, rain, hail, or shine, he could be heard bellowing, “Give me a band biatch!! For I have recorded a debut album on my lonesome! Producing, recording, performing and writing everything myself! But I can’t pull that shit off on stage!†And thus the band ‘Siva’ was born, God saw it, and it was good, assuming God sees at all due to his/her all-knowing nature… Surely something as crude as vision based on refracted light rays is far beyond a supreme being. Enough theology.
The debut album ‘A Theory of Everything’ is a classically influenced mellow rock driven monstrosity with influences ranging from Buckley to Beethoven and everything in between (except Linkin Park) but in the end, it doesn’t really matter, this is a truly original ensemble. Siva’s live shows have captivated Melbourne audiences since their first appearance in April 2008. From Jimmy Elrington’s hypnotic grooves with the noisy bang sticks, to Mike Hart’s fantabulous fingering finesse on the lute, to the gorgeousness of Shell Meehan’s bass driven sugar coated backing vocals, to Terry’s “I like to maker the singing sounds and play me ivory twinkling keys,†Siva have discovered a formula that entrances all that experience it.
