Active since December 2006 G-FACTOR ( aka Ghost Factor ) is a New York City JAZZ and Creative New Improvised Music Ensemble founded, organized and led by Composer/Guitar Virtuoso Sten Hostfalt.
Currently called "Inimitable" by PAPER MAGAZINE ('07), "Impressive, Intense" by TIME OUT NY ('08) And honorably mentioned by colleagues in Leading International Creative Music Press like TOMAJAZZ (Spain) and BADALCHEMY (Germany) with it's multiple International extensions, it builds on two decades of shared innovative collaboration and work on the New York and East Coast US scene.
And as since heard manifested in Sten Hostfalt's 2001-08 solo and group CD releases and live events.
Critically labeled "Groundbreaking" (Jazz Review '05), a Guitar Player Magazine '05 "Editor's Pick". Enthusiastically featured by Cadence, all About Jazz, Jazz Now, Altrisuoni (Italy) and Jazz Views (UK). With approval from Legendary Icons of American Music, mentors Jimmy Giuffre and Joe Maneri to boot. All in all, Sten Hostfalt has held and sustained a bandleader or co-leader role ever since the mid 70's, and as documented on recordings / audio releases and noted in the press and media since 1981.
Stylistically drawing from the Improvised Music/Jazz tradition as well as Metal, Punk/Progressive and
Classical. Enough to sufficiently blur any classification. Just like Sten Hostfalt's other projects, G-Factor is a music ensemble known to creatively, actively deal with new pitch systems and expressions.
The Members Hostfalt, Renzi, Djordjevic and Jimmy Weinstein, as well as the more frequent/regular collaborators vocalist Melissa Kassel and bassist Bruno Raberg share a musical history of two decades.
While typically also inviting/working with new generation improvisers and guests of all kinds and styles.
