The Legend of the Isle of Shadows
In Irish Mythology there is a story of Cuchalain and his power. It is said he travelled to an island of warrior women and trained with them to learn all he could in the art of combat. He trained under a woman named Sgathaich and laid with her sister Aoife. Aoife soon was with child, before Cuchalain left he gave Aoife a ring, telling her he would know the child was his if he came wearing the ring. Many years later, Cuchalain had succeeded in earning fame and honor. His son came looking for him and without revealing his identity challenged Cuchalain to a battle, the two fought and found they were evenly matched but in the end both lay mortally wounded. It was then Cuchalain saw the ring upon the boys finger and realized the gravity of what he had done. With his dying breath he lamented the death of his son.

There in the unforgiving cliffs and bonebiting winds they made their home, finally safe from the bloodthirsty ways of the rest of their clan. Annon was born with a natural sense for war and as such was determined to be the best. She first heard the tale of the Isle of Shadows when she was but twelve years old. Close to her fourteenth birthday she finally stepped upon the banks of the Isle of Skye, that same island she had sought for nearly two years. She was brought before Sgathaich the leader of all and found worthy to begin training. Ten years she spent there learning all the secrets of the strongest known warriors of the era. Ten years later she left, tall grim and hardened. Ready to see the world she had left so long ago.
