Poseidon's wife and children lived in the middle of a plain on the island which came to be known as Atlantis. During their time there, Poseidon changed the land so that the area where they were living wouldn't be accessible. After his wife's death, Poseidon re-married and the couple then had 5 sets of twin boys. Poseidon continued to change the terrain of the island. The land of the island was all based on a hill in the center where Cleito (his wife) lived. After her death, Atlas lived here. Around the hill were alternating rings of land and water, creating a rings around the hill. Beyond the rings were fields, homes, etc. Poseidon split up the land into 10 different provinces and gave each of his sons one to rule over. Atlas, his first born son, became king of the entire island. The brothers would gather together and discuss the matters of the kingdom. After a period of time, the 10 brothers became foolish and adopted the mortal ways. They no longer worshipped the Gods in the way they once had and Zeus was upset about this. After meeting with the other Gods in Olympus, a decision was reached that Atlanis was no longer worthy of existence. The end of Atlantis came when the ocean swallowed it up, leaving nothing but the myth.
