About Me

I began my music career in Boston, Massachusetts on June 4, 1990, playing to drunken mobs in the Irish pubs and college bars. Incredibly, I began to make a name for myself by being able to tame an unruly crowd fired by Guinness and Jack Daniels using only a guitar and a microphone. Thats right. No drum machines..EVER!!In 1993, I packed up my Jeep and moved to sunny San Diego. I guess my blend of humor and thoughtful songwriting struck a chord with Southern Californians and I began to develop a following along the west coast.Through the '90s, I ran the circuit of the clubs and colleges, writing the tunes that would eventually comprise my 1999 debut release, "A Little Something for Everyone." The cd met with critical acclaim. Richard Meltzer of the San Diego Reader wrote, "Bob Karwin is everything music is about." Cole Coleman of the Los Angeles magazine Music Connection found Bob's original songs "well-crafted, witty, sensitive at times," with a voice "reminiscent of Jim Croce."My second cd, "Proper Attire," features 13 original tunes with the same blend of wit, variety, and hummable rhythms that permeated the first cd. Tropical Dreams called "Proper Attire" "An admirable follow-up to his wildly popular initial release"As for my live shows, I perform solo, with no drum machines, backing tracks or band members. People often ask, "Why don't you get a band?" Well, sure, a full band is louder, but a guy with a guitar who really knows what he is doing can connect with the crowd and really bring the house down. The audience is my band. You have to see it to believe it.Today, I travel around offering up what I think are fun, upbeat songs spiced with humor and plenty of energy. My two cds have each received regular rotation on Jimmy Buffett's internet radio station, Radio Margaritaville as well as many other broadcast and internet stations.Who have I played with? I have performed with luminaries of the sunburn circuit including Coral Reefers Greg "Fingers' Taylor, Amy Lee and Doyle Grisham as well as legendary performers Sunny Jim White, Jerry Gontang, Tommy Rocker, Jim Hoehn and Mark Mulligan. I even once shared a bill with Barenaked Ladies at the Pond in Anaheim.Where have I played? I have performed at national events such as "Migration" in Long Beach, CA, "Phins to the West" in Laughlin, NV, at Tommy Rockers in Las Vegas, NV, and at bars and Parrot Head Club phlockings too numerous to mention. So grab a rum punch, tour the web site and come back often.
