Edison Arthur Biography
"...music has a space to hide inside or to shield yourself with....you learn something from it, and draw power from it."
Acclaimed singer and songwriter Edison Arthur has been building grooves and raising eyebrows this year, with a dark, startling debut LP entitled, "The Epic Interior." The songs are an innovative cocktail of rock/pop arrangement, cut with his intensely personal and often heart-wrenching lyrical poetry. Listeners are connecting to Arthur's cynical, fresh perspectives on the twenty-something experience, and taking the catchy choruses and thoughtful hooks away with them. His independently released album "The Epic Interior" has recently been awarded the 2005 LiveWire award for the best independently released rock/pop album of the year, by The Republican Newspaper. He has been performing to crowds throughout New England and New York, and is currently at work on a second album with producer Jose Ayerve (The Winterpills, Spouse).
"The songs on the first records, each one materializing in their own way....were a message I was sending to myself: that the most important relationship you have in life...is the one you have with yourself. "
Edison Arthur was born and raised in Massachusetts and studied music in New England and Great Britain. A student of piano and popular music for much of his life, Edison has drawn influence from rock songwriting pioneers John Lennon, Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel, and Leonard Cohen.
His performances throughout 2005 and 2006 have garnered him a reputation for being an intensely honest and totally original artist. These performances have ranged from intimate scaled down piano and voice performances, to a full band powerhouse rock show. He has performed at venues such as the Knitting Factory, Webster Theatre, The Moonwork Series, and throughout Europe.
Recently Edison has grabbed the attention of record industry executives at Epic, Maverick, and Universal Record Companies, among others. After concluding a project with Universal Music Group, Edison moved to Great Britain where he was writing, performing, and readying new material. He is currently back in the states promoting his most recently released effort: "Whatever We Are: Selected Works 2000-2006".
