It was the late 1970’s when Disco was at its height, Rock battled the airwaves, and the Fania Allstars reined the Latin Music Era. This was the era in which AJA was born. Growing up in a time where Rap, Punk , and New Wave were beginning to make it’s mark, left a strong musical impression on her. Aja, since the time she began to speak, showed a spark and love for music. Having come from a family of musical people i.e. father was a singer, mother also had a beautiful voice, and great-auntie from daddy’s side was a life-long vocalist as well. As goes in the way of genetics, this gift was passed down to her. Since the age of 3 she would sing songs her mother used to sing to as well, from artists such as Donna Summer, Chaka Khan, Celia Cruz, Sade, and all too many other great’s of the day. Coming from a strong Puerto Rican-American Heritage, AJA absorbed all the rich sounds from her Grandparents music collection as well as those of her aunt’s, uncle’s and parents. As you could imagine this covered a broad spectrum of music, therefore influencing AJA’s style of singing. From rock to soul, Latin to R& B-Hip Hop, there is nothing this young girl wasn’t willing to try her vocals on. Having lived in the Bronx for a good portion of her life also taught her the ways of the inner city. Aja refused to conform to the pressures around her, and always walked to her own beat. Getting lead parts in all of her school performances installed in her a work ethic that would be with her always. Finally in comes high school and the training for real life begins. Having heard of the school’s Gospel Choir, Aja decided to try out her first year. This was tough thing as only very few freshman were allowed to enter the Chamber Choir, and those were of extreme talent. Giving it all she could she did it, and was accepted with only one other female who was outstanding. Getting the training that was necessary for AJA enabled her to again get outside influences in music that would shape her style for years to come. Freestyle was also in music at this time, but nothing could take AJA away from Rock, Soul R&B, And New Wave/Punk. Deciding music was going to be her official career did not exactly sit well with the family. This however did not make a bit of difference to this headstrong Puerto Rican girl from the Bronx. Her grandparents always gave her the support she needed to keep going, so not caring what anyone else thought, she recorded her 1st single with an independent record company based out of South Florida when she was 15. Having already been relocated there by her grandparents, finally showed a suburban lifestyle that AJA was not yet used to. This taught her to mix with diverse cultural backgrounds, more so than in New York. Learning the biz, from veteran musicians, playing concerts in Las Vegas, and continuing to record with various producers and artists through out the years made AJA aware that it was time to branch out on her own, and become her own Artist. Always having been a natural performer on the stage taught her all the moves she would need to survive in the Biz. Also having appeared in Calle Ocho, Television Shows, and South Beaches hottest nightclubs left there mark, and convinced AJA that the time to record her first official album was here. Making one of the hardest decisions of her life, AJA and her producer J.A.Y. i.e. Former head of a company who are the four founders of Reggaeton today, moved back to New York City to achieve this goal. Having come up with “ One†the album and the material was of inner soul searching and of inner growth as human being. AJA doesn’t speak only of love in her lyrics, but of passion, pain, loss and sorrow. Having sacrificed many things, shaped the artist in which graces the world today with a better understanding of what is needed. Compassion, strength, love, and to make a better world through music is a power that the gifted should give. And so with the unfortunate advent of September 11th, “ One “ was born a year later, and the true musical journey began. Mixing up sounds from R&B Hip Hop, Latin Soul, Modern Day Dance, Rock, Raggaeton, and Ballads in Both English And Spanish gave AJA Her unique voice and style that comes naturally . Through the obstacles, the rain, the thunder, and the storms, “ ONE “ came to be. So now sit back, relax, and enjoy the Music that is like no other. The music and the voice of ONE…AJA…
