Virginia Cleo Andrews, the best selling gothic novelist was born June 6th 1923 in Virginia. Her first novel "Flowers In The Attic", a controversial story, became an instant best seller in 1979. It's sequel remained on the New York Times bestsellers list for a record 19 weeks. Virginia was named "Professional woman of the year" in 1984 and "number one best selling author of popular horror and occult paperbacks" in 1986. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Before her death in 1986 from breast cancer, Virginia Andrews wrote If There Be Thorns (1981), My Sweet Audrina (1982), Seeds of Yesterday (1984), Heaven, (1985), and Dark Angel (1986). Flowers In The Attic was turned into a movie and released in 1987 (Andrews appears as a window washer in the film). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Following the death of Virginia Andrews, two more novels were published: Garden of Shadows and Fallen Hearts. These are the last two books she wrote herself. Fans have continued to read Virginia Andrew's stories for over two decades through her ghost writer, Andrew Neiderman, best known for his novel "The Devil's Advocate". One of the ghostwriter's books "Rain" has also been turned into a tele-movie.
