RE-PLAY MUSIC FESTIVAL CYMRU

About Me

re-play music cmyru's next event3 day percussion & hand-drumming workshopsAn amazing opportunity to learn to play African, Brazilian and Cuban percussion for FREE with five top locally based tutors next month. Re-Play Music Cymru and Community Music Wales are pleased to announce FREE workshops in percussion and hand-drumming from Friday 20th March to Sunday 22nd at Hendre Hall, Tal-y-bont, Bangor. We are very lucky to be able to offer tuition of such high quality...the tutors have a wealth of experience in playing and teaching these rhythms, in bands, community groups and workshops, some maybe familiar to you.Colin Diamond plays in bands and teaches Capoeira- the Brazilian martial art/ dance. He will be teaching afro-latin rhythms played on Brazilian instruments (drums, bells, shakers) with lashings of Hip Hop to create an original mix and new take on traditional pieces. Prior percussion experience or western stick technique is beneficial.Steve Murphy has been teaching with African Link, spreading the joy of African drum, dance and song around North Wales, since 2001. He also plays percussion with Drymbago. He will be teaching west African rhythms using authentic African instruments and will cater for all levels.Tim Hines is well known through his workshops and having fronted salsa band Ran Can Can. He will be teaching Cuban carnival grooves - get close up and personal with the mighty rhythm of afro -cuba. Explore the essential patterns in traditional and modern styles using drums and various percussion. Some experience useful (particularly hand- drumming) but not essential.Nebs Chicanda grew up around music in Zimbabwe and Zambia. He will be teaching rhythms from Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa (Zulu) on a variety of traditional instruments and hand-clapping. If we're lucky there maybe some dance too. All levels of ability welcome.Bryn Davies has been teaching and playing with Samba Bangor and leading Batala Bangor for some years now. He will be teaching music from the north east of Brazil - Samba Reggae, Baiao and associated styles such as Forro, Coco and the fast and furious Conga on drums, bells, shakers, scrapers and the triangle. The course is funded by the Open College Network (OCN) and accredited so successful participants will attain two credits at Level one. This does mean that participants will have to attend all three days and must take part in a filmed public performance at the end of the course on Sunday. Friends and family are welcome to come to the public performance, which will showcase what has been learned. See your friends perform, find out what you missed or just come to enjoy! The workshops are open to anyone over 16 years old, beginners welcome. Workshops will run from 10am to 4 pm each day. Places are limited and early booking is advised. Instruments will be provided. For more information or to book please phone Gethin Evans on 01286 685 248 or e-mail [email protected] the performance on Sunday evening, also at Hendre Hall, is Bangor Drumfest -a fundraiser for RePlay Music Wales to help with their funding contribution for the workshops and to further their community workshops.check out Re-play music on the leftfeild stage at glastonbury 2008. check it out!!! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=dhEfmkY16_cRE-PLAY MUSIC CYMRU Will be hosting the main stage and the outside accoustic stage at the S.N.O.G festival in Hendre hall on Sunday the 24th August, our line up is almost finalised, if any other bands would like a slot at the festival please get in touch as the flyer will go to print very shortly.
