Kara Kesselring

Vocalist, pianist, and arranger, Kara Kesselring, a native of Iowa, is a graduate of the University of Iowa in vocal performance. She has been very active as a freelance musician and educator for the last ten years in Chicago.Kara is a pianist/vocalist/actor/writer for an improvisational theater troupe called Wavelength which travels around the country performing educational keynotes to teachers and administrators. She is proud to have written, “Musical Staff” with her partner Brendan Kelly which they performed in Singapore fall of 2005.Kara teaches private and group voice/piano classes to children and adults at Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago and at her own private studio in Berwyn. She has three CD’s, “If I Should Lose You”, “Sonho Meu”, and “The Grandma Project”. In addition to her freelance projects of pop and jazz, Kara performs in a corporate band, Standing Room Only Orchestra which was just rated one of the top six bands in Illinois by Modern Bride Magazine for the second year in a row. She performs weekly with her own “Kara Kesselring Jazz Quartet” and is excited to be part of a new country/gospel project called "Sugarcreek Road".When Kara isn’t working on music projects, you can find her at the gym teaching aerobics, working in her community on The Berwyn Development Corporation marketing committee, The Berwyn Arts Council, The Brighter Face fundraising committee at Lakeview Presbyterian Church in Chicago, and hanging out with her pooch Sammy. She is very thankful for her husband Patrick, and is anticipating the arrival of their first child in November.
