Representing Clan MacLellan on MySpace. Clan MacLellan is a society composed of MacLellans, Gillilands, Clellands, and their descendants who spell their version of the name various ways.
The name MacLellan evolved from the Gaelic 'Mac Gille Fhaolain,' which means 'son of a servant of Saint Fillan.' St Filan was a missionary of the old Celtic church, and there is a village in Perthshire, Scotland named after him. The name Filan is derived from the Celtic 'faelchu,' meaning 'wolf.' initially, the Maclellans were numerous in Galloway and gave their name to Balmaclellan in Stewartry.
