I am a full-time college student, residing on the campus of the University of Georgia (go Bulldogs!) where I am majoring in Journalism. As an active and involved student, I am a member of UGA HEROs, an organization that focuses on improving the quality of life for children affected by and infected with HIV/AIDS; a member of the Black Educational Support Team (BEST), the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), and I serve on the Community Service Committee, Political Action Committee (PAC), Social & Cultural Programming Committee (SCPC), and the Freshman Advisory Board (FAB) of the Black Affairs Council (BAC).
My mother is national bestselling author, Kendra Norman-Bellamy and I am proud to be following in her footsteps. Writing comes natural for me and is my favorite thing to do. My first published work appeared in a self-published anthology entitled, "The Midnight Clear" that was released through KNB Publications in November of 2006. That marked the beginning of what has now become a career in fiction writing. In 2006, I was also offered a 2-book contract with Urban Christian, the Christian imprint of Urban Books publishers. In February 2007, my debut full-length novel, "Living Consequences" was released nationwide and in September, it won the 2007 Open Book Award for Best Young Adult Fiction from the African American Literary Awards Show. My sophomore novel, "Testing Relationships" is now available in stores everywhere.
"Living Consequences" is a coming of age, inspirational novel surrounding the lives of six young high school students and their families. Each teen is dealing with his or her own issue as they face decisions that pertain to abandonment, promiscuity, abstinence, peer pressure, and other realistic matters that today's teens face on a daily basis. Ultimately, these characters have to depend on the strengths of their friendships and their faith in God to see them through the consequences of whatever choices they made.
"Testing Relationships" is the sequel to "Living Consequences" and it follows the lives of the same teenagers as they enter their college careers, facing new challenges that not only tests their relationships with each other, but their relationships with God.
Be on the lookout for my third novel, "Grace and Mercy" which is set to release June 2009.
