Sounds Like: ABOUT CD
"Desiderio" (Splasch Rec.-2004 )
§-Cadence - USA - June 2004:
Marcello Sebastiani’s group is made of harder stuff and sails into realms of
American Jazz. The set contains the standard “ Like Someone In
Love “, composition of James Williams and Roland Kirk and a Sebastiani original dedicated to Ray Brown. Sebastiani’s bass is often lowdown and greasy and the use of Geoff Warren’s soprano as the main of horn gives this session an airy, light feel. Warren switches to flute on Williams “Alter Ego†for an even breezier Oriental sound, and,on “Station 888 “, he gets to show his improvising prowess on crinkly bebop line.Pianist Giovanni Ceccarelli stretches out on a trio version of “ Like Someone In Love †showing an ebullient style and Kirk’s classic “ The Inflated Tear†has all four musicians alternating formal bits of melody and abstract pattering. There’s not much Italian flavor to this one but it’s a good example of Jazz’s value as a universal language [ Jerome Wilson ]
