About Me

Hi. My name is Jen Whitson. I write maybe 3 songs a year, so I don’t know how much of a future I have in music, but I like to sing and play. My old roommate, Jennifer Bush, organized an effort to buy me time in a recording studio for my 23rd birthday, which is so great. Four of these songs were recorded there. In the songs, I sing lead and some backup, play guitar and djembe, Jonathan Davenport sings back up, and Mike Schrimpf plays keyboard/strings, and also did all the recording. The rest of the songs I did with GarageBand, so they’re a little rough. Anyhoo, I hope you like.

Ah, today has been a crying day.

I don't know what it is. Well, I do. It started in therapy. My therapy just gets more and more emotional. Every week, I come in thinking "Let's talk about time management or job searching or how I fee...

Sister, when you laugh

My heart fills full up.Earlier today, I found a video of myself and two other boys when we were in the 2nd grade. We were pretending to do the news. All the artifacts of my pre-college years have sl...

Moments of Clarity

It's so strange to talk and talk with someone, for months, to take him totally at face value, even to find so much common ground, to superimpose your own history on him, and then, one night, to realiz...

Sun comes slow like she's thinking it over, the moon shoots a dirty look over his shoulder

It has been just long enough, I think, that I've started noticing that I haven't really talked to my old friends up in Cleveland. And that we don't live together anymore. I am in Atlanta, for the cu...

Moving Along

Gosh, I am so tired of misunderstanding.  I am so tired of people thinking I'm "a mess" or "in trouble" or "a threat" and worrying about me and praying for me because I don't fit into the st...
