About Me

I loooove playing funk and soul bass lines on tuba, grooving on elec bass, and playing my bass trombone like a contrabass lead trumpet. I try to project myself into every person who can hear me with every note I play.I cannot leap even small buildings, however. My secret identities include being a period instrument specialist on a very old tuba I bought on eBay.The clips above - (Fables of Faubus - I'm on bass trombone; PTFMWB and mystery tune I'm on tuba). "Despair" is a tune by the trio version of Farmer Cyst, my bass-playing band.I like taking pictures. This is because I long to be an artist but can't actually draw. Some of the bands I play in here:***The John Bennett Band - (this man is Yoda) *** Hot Orange - http://hotorange.org*** The Brasshoppers - (when Gideon's out of town!)*** plus a few others - it you ever want to make a demo for a band that will never get any gigs, I'm your man! Call me!

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: respectable, or so I'm told.
Influences: Jaco, Paul Jackson, Flea & the rest of the Chili Peppers, Richard Feynman, more Jaco, Miles, Herbie Hancock, James Brown, Youngblood, Dave Taylor, That freak mother who played the bass trombone in Elvis' early 1970's band, Gil Evans, Charles Mingus, Steve Reich, Dave Bargeron, Bill Frisell, Elvis himself, of course, Salvador Dali, The Blue Man Group, The Coen Bros, King Coolidge Fritts, Maynard, and a bit of Jaco
Sounds Like: Me.My approach to bass trombone playing is like a bari sax player, a really aggressive lead trumpet player, and a crooneresque vocalist getting stuck in that machine from The Fly.I don't know what my tuba playing sounds like. It depends totally on the band & music, really.
