I am here for Networking

About Me

..I am a sound engineer who has toured with many bands in many capacities. I have worked as an engineer, gtr tech, production manager and tour manager (sometimes more than one hat at the same time when the tours were small). If you want to know about my sound engineering history go here . This is not a complete list but it covers most of the people I worked with for any protracted period. I also sing and write the lyrics and some of the music with my band That Legendary Wooden LionThe band is has just finished recording its first album and we are starting to to move into the mixing stage soon.It should be available sometime in the summer. More details on the band's Website and MySpace site.Among the previous bands I sung with were Dogwatch and Roy Weard and the Last Post. Both of these bands played in the famous Bridge House and Ruskin Arms venues in London's East End. A full history and photos of those bands can be found on the website too.If that was not enough I spend a lot of time diving with the Sussex Diving Club . I am currently the Diving Officer for the club (don't let the military nomenclature fool you - my hippie past is still dominant) and can be found most weekends from April to November , weather permitting, falling off a boat just off Brighton. I am a fully qualified BSAC Open Water Scuba Instructor so, if you feel like learning to dive down in the Brighton area get in touch.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I have been fairly lucky in that I got to meet and do sound for quite a few of my musical heroes from the 60's through to now really. Some have been a bit disappointing and some have been even better than I thought they would be.I enjoy working with other musicians and bands and I find that being a sound engineer can be almost as satisfying as performing. There is a sense that sitting at the desk, during a show that is really working, is uplifting and it is good to be able to contribute my expertise in that way.Getting back on the stage in Nov 07, for the first time in xxx years, though, reminded me that there is no real substitute for being up there and doing it so I intend to do a lot more of that too.

My Blog

In Praise of The Organ (no, not that one) and other matters

I would like to offer a bit of praise to The Organ, an online magazine which I first discovered on MySpace a year or so ago. It is based n London and does concentrate its focus on London events but th...

More MP3 splutterings

Following on from my epic 5 part post about music and the media on which it is packaged up and sold to the public I picked up on a couple of things in the last two days. Both of them concerned marketi...

Gee - 20

I must admit it takes me back a bit. As a nation, and indeed as a world in general, we have been sadly lacking in a response to those who would be our masters. We have accepted the global creep of big...

What does it do for you then, mate? (to quote Rolf Harris on Stairway to Heaven)

Well, I just told someone I would try not to pontificate and here I am, at 1am, after a foogy drive back from London to Brighton, with a glass of red wine probably doing just that. A few things recent...

Richard Thompson and another little rant!!

I have seen Richard Thompson many times over the years. The first time was with the Fairports at the Middle Earth Club in Covent Garden way, way back in the 60s and he has never failed to impress me w...

Memories of John Martyn

I was very sad to hear the announcement of the death of John Martyn.  I first met John through Richard Digance when we were, all three, trawling round London's folk clubs and we continued to run into ...

To Quote from a Master

This weekend I mentioned Rupert Hine to someone and they asked to hear some of his stuff, I dug out a CD called 'The Wildest Wish To Fly' and, while it was playing, read the liner notes. To Quote:'The...
