The WA and ATMOMY

WA were founded by Paolo Palazzoli and Roberto Cosimi in 1997. In 1987 the two musicians began to write songs together and in 1988 made a world-music production with Africans musicians ( Gabin Dabiré ) entitled Zokué Kpolé (Forrest Hill Records - with the art- production of their great friend Paolo Panigada - Feyez - Elio e Le Storie Tese ) in which there are three very representative compositions of the first WA sound: "Egg", "Vuela Libre" and "Three Ages In One". In 1999 there was a tour of Zoquè Kpolé in many festivals in Italy and in Capoverde Islands ( Africa). In 1998, during the making of Zokué Kpolé, Palazzoli and Cosimi became friends of Massimo Dedo who has taken part at some recording sessions . Since 2000 the three musicians began to work together towards a way of composing in which their voices, the trombone, the electric bass and the piano gave them the chance to explore new dimensions of sound. The Wa until 2004 played in many theatres and in many music-clubs in Italy. Having got good successes in their shows, the three musicians realized that the right thing to do was to conceive a new work: Atmomy. So, in 2006 the band arrived at a kind of composing which represents a pure example of world-jazz.

di Marina ContiDisco intimista e lunare, che fa riflettere. Un mantra per risvegliare i sensi alla legge divina del grande ventre del mondo: madre natura. ATMOMY perlustra i territori sotterranei e misteriosi della vita e del sogno, raramente accessibili all’uomo quando prova a decifrarne i misteriosi simboli solo con la ragione. Gli WA codificano il linguaggio dell’universo trasformandolo in un sussurro che tocca le corde dell’anima, mantenendo di base una sonorità essenziale che avvolge otto brani di profonda carica spirituale. Composizioni inedite che includono: un classico del repertorio brasiliano rivisitato per l’occasione in una versione più morbida e rallentata rispetto a quella originale ( “Brasil” ), brani strumentali ( “Long Vojage”, “The First Century” ) che si alternano a ballate nostalgiche cantate in spagnolo ( “Bisabuelos” ), inglese ( “The Lord”, “Live The Life”) , in siciliano ( “Sognu” ), compresa un’insolita bossa nova dal testo in lingua francese ( “Je Veux L’Amour” ). All’interno del libretto alcune frasi poetiche sono sparse come preziose perle di saggezza, accompagnate da immagini di quadri eseguiti dai musicisti ad esprimere la loro fertile creatività e l’originale forma d’espressione artistica, scelta a rappresentare ATMOMY in un connubio perfetto fra la sonorità, la poesia e la pittura. In viaggio fra gli infiniti substrati della sensibilità, gli WA si contaminano così con le molteplici lingue del mondo in una musica dolce e rassicurante che prende forma dalle cangianti sfumature dell’arte, volta a ricongiungersi con l’uomo e la parte più intima di se stesso.Marina Conti
