Autore e conduttore radiofonico, giornalista e musicista.
Collaboro dalla metà degli anni ’80 con RadioRai: attualmente sono uno degli autori del Terzo Anello Musica e consulente musicale di "Damasco", "Ad alta voce", "Zenith", "Percorsi", "Fahrenheit", "Radio3Mondo", "Radio3 Scienza", tutte trasmissioni di Radio3. Collaboro anche con RTSI, la radio della svizzera italiana, e scrivo di musica, cultura giovanile e viaggi per Il Manifesto, Alias, XL di Repubblica, Slowfood, Il giornale della Musica e molti altri magazine. Come musicista sono stato il bassista delle prime stagioni dei Mau Mau, il co-leader dei Mazapegul, il produttore e l'autore testi dei Daunbailò.
Un mio “atlante personale†dedicato ai viaggi e agli incontri del periodo Mau Mau/Mazapegul è stato pubblicato nella collana Orme della Edt col titolo “Se è giovedì siamo in Olandaâ€.
In questo periodo sto portando in giro per l’Italia un nuovo progetto: Gli Ex (roots & soul, swing & roll). Insieme al clarinettista Gabriele Mirabassi e alla vocalist Maria Pia de Vito propongo invece la conferenza-spettacolo “Il fuoco amico di John Cageâ€. Ho infine ulteriormente precisato il progetto Corzani Airlines, un djset fatto di musiche originali e selezioni downtempo e quello del Lap Dance Trio (jazz ed elettronica morbida) .
Valerio Corzani is graduated in Aesthetics with a thesis on “John Cage and the multimedia questionâ€. He works with music, new media, youth culture and travels.
He collaborates with Il Manifesto, Alias, XL e D of Repubblica, Il Giornale della Musica, Il Turismo Culturale, Jack, Slowfood; he presents radio programs for Popolare Network and for the second network of Radio Svizzera Italiana; he is host, author and musical consultant of Radio3 Rai. He has been collaborating with RadioRai since 1986, and he has signed hundreds of programs for the three networks, playing the following roles: host, author, musical consultant and sound designer.
He directed the Freequency magazine, Dippiù and the broadcaster Radio Wave; he was editor in chief of the portal www.vinile.com. He taught “History of Jazz and Fusion†in the Università della Musica in Rome, “History and language of the radiophony†and “History of the Italian song†in the Accademia della Critica in Rome. He was coordinator and professor of the training courses realized in Il Segnalibro in Rome, in Museo della Papesse in Siena, in Torino Jazz Lab, in Luciano Vanni Editore and Ars Officina in Ancona.
He conceived and coordinated the section World of Meeting of the independent labels of Faenza; since 2007 he is in charge of international relations for the Festival La Notte della Taranta; he is in the jury of several competitions and awards: I Suoni della Libertà , Tenco award, Città di Loano award, Imola in Musica award, PIMI, Mei Laratro.
Besides his work as a journalist, he is also a musician. He played for four years with Mau Mau band from Turin, and he leaded the bands Mazapegul and Daunbailò. He recorded two albums with Mau Mau, three with Mazapegul and one with Daunbailò; he received also the Tenco award and Ciampi award. During his activity as a musician he played with Marc Ribot, Roy Paci, Jimmy Villotti, Gabriele Mirabassi, Maria Pia de Vito, Dodi Moscati, Andy j. Forrest, Gabriella Ferri, Peppe Voltarelli, Carlo Muratori and Riccardo Tesi, among others. He signed the soundtrack of theatrical shows and he was the curator of the music of “live†transposition of silent movies. In 2007 he conceived the show-conference “John Cage’s friendly fireâ€, realized in several cities, with the participation of the singer Maria Pia del Vito and the clarinetist Gabriele Mirabassi. He developed the Corzani Airlines project, a DJset composed by original tracks and “downtime†selections; recently he inaugurated two new projects: The Lap Dance Trio (Jazz and soft electronic) and Gli EX (Roots & Soul, Swing & Roll).
His “personal atlas†dedicated to travels and meetings during the Mau Mau/Mazapegul period was published by the Orme collection, with the title “If today is Thursday, we are in Netherlandsâ€.
