About Me

Things currently making me happy: power yoga, A&E, sunshine, new furniture, impending travels (NY, Claremont, Cancun, Victoria?), my dog's nappy weave, tax refunds, Cafe Latte Da, new underwear, finding out there's $100 more in my savings account than I thought...
Things currently not making me happy: dry winter skin, awwwwwwkwaaaaardness, hormones/hot flashes/random emotion, death-anxiety, low booze stock, broke-ass washing machine, the EE profession, leaky new-ish tire...

My Interests

Boozin', art museums, town festivals, road trips, wandering new places, beach fun

I'd like to meet:

If I was fifty years older or Frank McCourt was fifty years younger... mmmph...
I think my father is like the Holy Trinity with three people in him, the one in the morning with the paper, the one at night with the stories and the prayers, and then the one who does the bad thing and comes home with the smell of whiskey and wants us to die for Ireland.
I feel sad over the bad thing but I can't back away from him because the one in the morning is my real father and if I were in America I could say, I love you, Dad, the way they do in the films, but you can't say that in Limerick for fear you might be laughed at. You're allowed to say you love God and babies and horses that win but anything else is softness in the head.

Music:

My car stereo presets are a B'more rock station, a DC Top 40 station, *one* ghetto booty hip-hop station (I In my apartment CD player lately: what? Sometimes I put on the GAC channel when I'm working out (seriously)
In my car lately: Carrie Underwood again
My Ultimate Albums: GNR Use Your Illusion I&II, Bruce Springsteen's Greatest Hits, 2 Skinnee J's Supermercado!, Matchbox20 Yourself of Someone Like You, Green Day Dookie & American Idiot
Last downloads: My phone ringtone is STILL 'Rehab'

Movies:

The Good Shepherd...? meh. Still not sure what kind of movie it is trying to be.

Television:

The part of my brain that kept track of what shows were on when has ceased to function...I seem to mostly watch mystery shows, fictional and non. I like to watch The Wire and old repeats of Homicide to look for familiar sights in B-More.

Books:

Actually Reading (no, really!): some Rushdie & McCourt
Best of books on CD: Devil in the White City, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Dress Your Kids in Corduroy and Denim (...Hitchhiker's Guide surprisingly better in paperback)
Favorite Books to Date: Ethan Frome, The Awakening, Mrs. Dalloway, The Shell Collector, Sue Grafton's 'A is for...' series

[expletive] Texas

I hate Texas. I have not spent much time there, but the last time I went really sucked. I was in Lubbock for a week-long course on Pulsed Power, which was alright, and I met a couple of cool people,...

Girls should not carry stuff in their back pockets

By girls, perhaps I mean just me. I have dropped plenty a pen from my back pocket into the toilet while sitting down to pee (girls don't crap) and they go into the garbage, but now this is the second...

A Brief Moment of Reflection Followed by a Brief Moment of Feminism

Size Doesn’t Matter

It occurred to me today that my perception of size has been all over the place over the years. When I went from grammar school to high school, I thought the building was too big to possibly navigate ...
