ODALISQUE

The year was 1996; it was time for Mr. Shockley to start a new Glam/Punk band with Sub on drums and Vivian on vocals and guitar!
The two young musicians named their band as Odalisque that means something like “(female) slave of harem”. The band tried four bass players but not one of them seemed right for Odalisque that played without bass at the time...
They still needed a bass-player, so the band could start making music of its own. Vivian asked his friend from school if he was interested to join a band and play some bass-guitar, he joined the band as Ally mc Mental and after hard rehearsals it was time to see, who band worked alive.
The first gig was in ku-judo Hall, the band played four songs, and audience were shocked. Audience was mostly students from Vivian’s school but still, the gig kicked ass! So followed gigs after gigs and band had its first fans.
In year 1997, Odalisque went to Tampere to record their firs E.P, called Boiled Boils containing four songs (1.Boil-2.Insane-3.Can you help me-4.I love you)! E.P was sold-out one week after came out! Labels interests was lame but a magazine called Soundi had a good review from Boiled Boils on it (except they criticized Vivian for too long guitar-solos), the band in best 1/3 of all other bands that were reviewed in the magazine! As the band kept playing, our style developed from Glam/Punk-rock to darker sounding heavy rock but one big change happened 1999! Vivian stopped singing and begun to play only guitar, a new Odalisque member was found soon. Now Odalisque was Mic Helzandra on vocals, Vivian shockley on guitars, Ally mc Mental on bass and Sub Starr on drums! Odalisque made some home recordings that are all lost and the 4 guys had a wonderful time for a moment, but this was not supposed to be that Vivian played the guitars; SOMETHING ELSE WAS WRITTEN ON THE STARS;WRITTEN WITH BLOOD ON THE WALLS!
In year 2000, Vivian put his guitar away and concentrated on vocals. The second E.P was VERY dark Gothic-Death metal record with four tracks on it! It took 2½ years before E.P was finally ready. It was on the mid summer of 2003 when Sub came back to Finland from Stockholm, Sweden after being there for a two years.
In year 2004 we have made shit-load-of-new-songs and rehearsed our band ready to make some new gigs! and we're go on stage at Hauho. It is the first time we play live after 2 years break.
We got a new guitarist Mike Melody on our line-up. In January 2005, we went one more time to the studio to record new EP Horrible Pictures. We have recorded some rough demos from our songs, so we got a good picture about the up coming EP that turned to album with 12 songs. It was recorded and mixed in SUKKULA STUDIO on summer 2006! It took several weeks to complete the album. Album was titled “No colors Just Tears”.
The Band was invited to Emergenza festival 2006 in Finland at a club called semifinal. But the gig was disastrous mostly because of the guitarist Mike Melody, who was too fucked up from drugs and beer (just like he was in studio all the time). The drug abuse has never been forbidden or any kind of taboo inside odalisque, but there has always been one rule:
DO NOT LET DOPE OR ALCOHOL TO BE AN OBSTACLE FOR YOUR PERFORMANCE!
Mike crossed the line too many times and he was fired after the gig at semifinal.
Soon after that we had to let our drummer Sub Starr go also (Mr. Starr was sentenced to spend next few years in prison for a armed robbery). Mr. Starr was replaced by a drummer named Judas Natas but now we still need a new guitarist, Mr. Shockley handles guitar until proper person for the job is found. Odalisque nearly quits 28.05.07 because of Ally mcMental's decision to walk away from the band after ten years!
Vivian and Judas continues under name of “ODALISQUE” and are getting some help to find players from brother of Judas. A new guitarist is being tested and if he pass the ODALISQUE test (that is painful and grouse thing to watch not even mention going through it! IT IS SICK!!) so the guitarist name will be announced if he passes the test!
The new guitarist is called Stan Damone The new Keyboard player is Andy X and the new bassist is A.T. so after a two months break the band is full and ready to practice new songs!
Today is 15.11.07 and we are couple months late from our schedules but dont panic! It is only because we have been doing new songs, now we have nine new Odalisque songs that are mainly written by our guitarist Damone. But all songs have born in our rehearsals, so that we all have done our part! Now the plan is in December we are starting shooting a video from the song FEAR! 27th of February,2008 was the first round of Emergenza 2008 Band-contest and with 53 votes(Second place) we got on to the Emergenza Finnish semi-finals! Also a terrible tragedy paralyzed Odalisque for a while when we heard the news of MIKE MELODY..S LEATHAL HEART ATTACK ON LATE 2007 but we have to move on and process the DEATH OF Mikko Karjalainen aka Mike Melody on our own! Next gig is now in club Gloria in the end of March! We also made a producer intrested of Odalisque... Odalisque..s new promo-cd recordings starts at early summer! There will be 10 tracks on it!
