My full name is Michiel de Haan. I am an electro-acoustic composer with an interest in the cohesion between electronic and acoustic sound. I strongly believe that all sound is one. The raw quality of my music is perhaps best reflected by the world that surrounds me; coming from above the famous Dutch light with its almost silver like quality, around me a country that is for 99 percent cultivated.
The very open society that Holland is. The ever present (over)flow of information with yet always a possibility to consciously shut of from this obtrusive outside world is something that is always present in my work. The constant exchange between public and private, between nature and culture, between acoustic and electronic. In such a world in flux it’s essential to “know yourselfâ€. So my voice, and the words I use, is very important to me.
I do not try to comment on or to describe the world around me with my music. That world is part of who I am and what I do and thus automatically a part of my music.
The music I make is my expression of lucidity.
I am also a member of De Haan/Spruit , where I play guitar and create the occasional mix-track for Marc (turntables) to mix with. We do play live now and then. So if you want to hear, meet or greet be invited! .
De Haan/Spruit are experimental musicians and long-time friends Marc Spruit and Michiel de Haan from Alphen a/d Rijn (NL) whose guitar and turntablism work results in dynamic and intense improvisations with carefully-placed silence playing a vital role.
