The "RI-SICK-U-LOUS STRETCH"
Bio:
Well, let's start at the beginning. I was born in India. (Amritsar, Punjab to be exact) and I moved Toronto, Canada when I was 2 yrs old. I then moved to the United States when I was 7 and I have been here ever since. I am happily married. I have a hot - ass wife (Hi Reese) who is my best friend. I know that sounds cheesy, but it is DA TROOF!
I have many hobbies, but music is my first love. I never really got into "American" music until I was about 11 years old. That's when I got into Duran Duran. I wanted to be the next John Taylor. Ironically, that year, I went back to India and learned how to play the Tabla (East Indian drums - You sit on the ground crossed-legged and play them with your palms and fingers). After returning Stateside, I gigged with my dad until I was about 17 and let me tell you, I was getting paid! Twelve years old making over $ 200.00 a gig! I learned a lot in that time. All my melody and rythm, as well as showmanship, came from my father.
In 1983, I discovered George Lynch. That was all she wrote! From that point on, I wanted to play guitar and be a ROCKSTAR! Well, in my culture, music is cool, but it should be kept as a hobby, so I was never really allowed to pursue that avenue. I should have been a doctor or something, I guess.
Anyway, fast foward 10 years. I'm 23 years old and I finally buy myself a guitar. I never took a lesson in my life. I learned by sitting on my couch reading tablature. I thought I was so freakin' cool when I figured out how to play "Wanted Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi. I thought I was God when I could play a Lynch riff! Luckily, my best friend Larry kept me in check by reminding me everyday that I was making his ears bleed with my horrible playing. You know, to this day, I still don't know the names of the strings on the guitar, besides the fact that I've got 2 E-strings.
So that's my beginnings. I gotta give my boy Melvin "Vinny" Hardy his props. I learned a lot from him and I'm eternally grateful. Melvin also co-wrote the music to "Fear", back in the day. Vinny, I hope you like where I have taken it.
