About Me

THE SHOTGUN STORY
Our story begins in the Spring of 2007. Seventeen miles apart, J.J. and Roxy Riot were sat in their respective bedrooms, playing instruments, recording their own material and thinking about putting a band together. After a chance encounter on the internet, the two came together and started jamming, discussing their musical interests and plotting world domination.
In the early Summer of 2007, Paulus came onboard to play the drums and a few jamming sessions were sorted out in the cellar of Stockton’s Green Dragon rehearsal studio. The infant band decided that classic/blues rock was the way to go and started working on 4 or 5 classic tunes, including Cream’s Sunshine of Your Love, The Stones’ Satisfaction and Jimi Hendrix’s Hey Joe and Red House. They also settled on the name of Shotgun Blues. Within a few weeks, Diego came on board as the band’s lead singer and frontman and, by Christmas 2007, the band had put together much of the material which forms the basis of their set today. Sadly, the band parted company with Paulus at the end of 2007. We owe him many thanks and look back with great fondness on the laughs we had together and the progress we made in those early months.

In early 2008, Blue joined the band as drummer and we worked hard to finalise enough material to play live, to write and record our first original song Suspect, to put together a home produced CD EP and to start to find some venue owners who might let us play.
Since then, we have played a number of gigs, which are photographed and detailed in these pages.
IN OCTOBER 2008, SHOTGUN BLUES MADE THE DECISION TO SPLIT UP AND END THE BAND. WE THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT OVER THE LAST YEAR! PLEASE READ OUR BLOG FOR MORE INFORMATION.

Diego has an eclectic and wild taste in music and, as the frontman for Shotgun Blues, is influenced by the likes of Jim Morrison, Frank Zappa, Alex Harvey, and Johnny Rotten. A student of English and Media, Diego likes to write lyrics and poetry. He previously played bass and sang in local rock band, "Misc".

J.J. has a varied taste in music and, as the guitarist for the band, takes his influences from Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eddie Van Halen, and BB King. An A-Level student, J.J. likes football, boozing, and playing pool. When given time off from the band, J.J. writes and performs his own material.

Roxy wants to be timewarped back to the Sunset Strip sleaze joints of the 1980s. There she'd hang out with Duff McKagan, Nikki Sixx, and Tommy Lee. Roxy writes reviews for Total Guitar magazine and also plays guitar and drums. In her spare time, Roxy likes to produce and record her own material, and is also a fan of both Film and Art.

After cutting his teeth in the local band scene, Blue spent many years wandering the wilderness that is "between bands", before being asked to make some noise with Shotgun Blues. Mention has been made of him in the mighty tome that is Kerrang, (many years ago), and he is now having a blast with Roxy, Diego and J.J.. Blue has a wide and varied mixture of musical tastes and influences ranging from the mainstream Foo Fighters, through to the more obscure Ozric Tentacles.

Influences: Diego:

The Doors;
Captain Beefheart;
Frank Zappa;
The Sex Pistols.

J.J:
