Grace, versatility and Style are just some of the few words that describe the budding new artist, Anika Davidson.
Growing up, Anika was strongly influenced by artists such as Beres Hammond, Diana King, Anita Baker, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and Lauren Hill. At twelve years old she migrated from her native Jamaica to a small town called Windsor in Ontario Canada, where she attended the W.F Herman Secondary school and was one of the most quiet and unseen kids there.
After the death of her grandmother in 2001 her family moved Toronto and resided in the city’s troubled Jane and Finch area. Shortly after her move to Toronto, Anika began attending West view Secondary school where she actively took part in the schools dance group, drama club and choir. However, it was not until late 2002 when she enrolled in the school’s vocal training class that Neeka made her musical abilities apparent. Her vocal teacher over heard her singing a rendition of Whitney Houston’s “Run to you†and made it a point of his duty to showcase her talent. He gave her the lead part in one of the school’s musicals and needless to say on the opening night Neeka wowed the audience with her talent and left the school auditorium in silence after her performance.
Neeka has since gone on to writing, producing and directing several musicals for both her school and community in efforts of raising awareness for Black history and preventing violence.
In 2007 she recorded her first single “Stay here with me†with the help of upcoming producer Odane Letts of PSP productions and has collaborated with several artists in the United States and Canada. She is constantly working on honing her craft and showing the world her talent.
Anika is persistently making her way to the top and when she gets there she will prove that she is a force to be reckoned with.
