Ali Wilson / B.A.Wilson

About Me

Hi. I'm Ali or, if you prefer, B.A. I am based in the rather charming Scottish Borders. I play drums in various bands in the Edinburgh area. I also teach drums and front my own band (playing guitar not drums!!). The band is called The Legendary Hearts and you can find us at www.myspace.com/aliwilsonsongs or www.thelegendaryhearts.com I've played well in excess of 3,000 gigs over the years and have worked with U.S. soul legend Bill Fredricks, 60's icon Karl Denver (before R.E.M and The Happy Mondays got to him!) and Blur associate Phil Daniels. Sadly the "Big Time" has eluded me - guess I should've tried harder! Still, I'll keep hitting drums 'til the day I die - which shouldn't be too far away..... the way I've been driving recently!!! I am also a former employee and proud to be associated with Drum Central, Edinburgh & Glasgow - the worlds finest Percussion Emporium, check out www.drumcentral.co.uk I used to do a bit of TV and film work under the name B.A.Wilson, (the B.A. means simply Big Al - for Equity, the actors Union, reasons), - You'll find me on late night TV doing tiny bit-parts on ancient episodes of Scottish cop show Taggart and now-defunct soap High Road plus movies such as London gangster flick "Shooters" with Gerard Butler, Scottish kilt flick "The Bruce" with Oliver Reed, football epic "A Shot at Glory" with Robert Duvall and Michael Keaton and several low budget/no budget Scottish short films, mostly directed by my good friend Justin Molotnikov. Outside of music and what with having three kids an' all, I have very little time for other interests. A bit of mountain biking, travelling, trying to perfect my impression of Clunk from Dick Dastardley's "Stop the Pigeon" cartoon show and trying to get my new house in order. No time for much else really. If you want to see and hear what I do, then a good place to start would be Bannermans Bar on Edinburgh's Cowgate where I play every Saturday at 4.30pm with Edinburgh guitar guru Rab Howat. We play a broad selection of classic covers but with our own little twists and turns. Check us out!!For those who are interested I play DW drums in Blood Red Sparkle Speciality Laquer with Gold hardware. Sizes 10,12,14,16,18 toms (never use them all at the one time though!!), 14x5.5 snare and a killer 26x20 kick drum. Cymbals are a mixture of A + K Zildjian. Cases are by Enduro and Protection Racket.I play (badly) a Gibson ES135 Limited Edition electric guitar with a Bigsby tremelo arm and a Yamaha FG420E 12 string electro/acoustic. Here are a few photos of what I've been up to these last few decades!
