About Me

I am a writer & director, living in Los Angeles, California. Working in documentary TV right now, which keeps me busy and pays the bills. I write my own stuff in my spare time and direct what I can with the spare change.
Grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, went to school at Miami University of Ohio and then lived in Chicago, Illinois for many years where I worked in advertising as a copywriter. One day I up and quit my job and started to move in the left direction. Wound up in Los Angeles. I guess that makes me a big fat cliche. Yep, that's me. Cliche-head. I actually ended up liking it here in LA a lot. I still do. I guess that puts me in a very small minority. Yep. That's me. A dissident.
Writing this, I wonder who even reads this myspace fodder known as About Me? No one reads in LA, even though they tell you they do. So, am I to think someone is going to read this kick-ass profile and think...this kid sure can write! Nah. I'm not that naive. However, I will admit...I do hope some sweet loving single woman, keen on the eyes and long in the legs reads this and, after marrying my poetic words with my hypnotic photos, will want to meet me, get to know me, take a ride on the Phil Brody Express. Let it be known, I am accepting applications, resumes, reels and, hell, even text messages & myspace messages from all potential mates. Now...even though no one is even reading this, let's get back to the regularly scheduled cliche-filled About Me...
After relocating to Los Angeles, I won some awards for my script writing -- First Place in the Short Film Group's Screenplay Contest and Second Place in the American Accolades 2006 Screenwriting Competition. My short film, "A Blue Christmas", was acknowledged at Houston's Worldfest Independent Film Festival and in The Cleveland International Film Festival (check out the short under Videos ). I am currently planning on filming a new set of shorts that are sure to set the Short Film Industry on its ear...or eyes. By the way, if anyone knows where the Short Film Industry works, meets, thrives or resides, please let me know -- because the whole medium seems dead in the water, face down ("Porecelin Udder Buddy").
I am an avid baseball fan and I root for the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago Cubs.
Things I love include: dogs, music, movies, good books, good scripts, good food, good conversation, pretty gams, perfect gin & tonics, champagne, the Champagne of Beers, peanut M&Ms.
When I grow up, I want to be happy. So far, so good. (Aw, that's sweet. No?).

10 things in movies/TV that, as a writer, I never need or want to see again:

1. That courtroom scene where a defendant cannot afford counsel or cannot secure the right counsel and just as the judge says, "Mr Smith, who will be representing you?" some high-priced, hot-shot law...

This is my life. My city. My LA.

Ah, yes. Nothing says LA like a homeless guy passed out in Runyan Canyon, just a few feet from a group doing morning Yoga.
