DJ Curious Baby Face Born in Roanoke, VA, DJ Curious Baby Face has been placed around good people his whole life. Christopher Usher was adopted at the age four and moved to Washington, D.C Raised in the home of Go-Go, Curious has always had a diverse sense of music. Getting early exposure on how to DJ through a neighborhood friend, Tracy Young, Curious easily took to the craft. Tracy, who would later become Madonna’s DJ, lived just four doors down from Curious as he was growing up. Tracy was also working at DC’s popular radio station WPGC, with the likes of Donnie Simpson and an intern who goes by “Big Tigger”. Between Tigger and Tracy, Curious was given a formal education on how to DJ and Host. Getting the name Curious while away at a Pennsylvania boarding school, young Christopher quickly turned what was meant as a joke into the name that would represent him for his career. “There was a joke about me looking like Curious George, and it just stuck.” Hosting a show on his high school’s radio station, DJ Curious was on Monday through Thursday from 6-10. Once he finished with school, DJ Curious wasted no time in getting gigs in DC nightclubs. Spinning at Club Phiness at the age of 17, Curious was beginning to make his name known. Adding clubs such as H2O, Club U, and several gentlemen’s clubs to his resume, Curious was moving crowds nightly in DC. Attending Hampton University had DJ Curious back and forth between DC and VA. While earning a degree in biology, Curious was also able to get a spot on a local radio station in Newport News, VA. But it was at the strip clubs that he got the second part of his name. “I was young when I was the DJ in these strip clubs” he remembers. “So the girls used to tease me about having a baby face”. Attending graduate school at Howard for Physical Therapy, landed Curious right back in Chocolate City and again he went to work. “I did everything” recalls Curious “I did local basketball tournaments, events for the Washington Bullets (now Wizards), parties overseas (Germany, Belize), and events for radio”. I like to travel, see different people and places”. Curious began growing a fan base in DC, but it was a trip to Atlanta, GA that helped Curious take his game to the next level.“I was visiting my God-sister and we were going to one of Jaze Pha’s parties and they needed a DJ. So my God-Sister told them I was a DJ, and I got to do my thing.” Getting put on at one of Atlanta’s hottest gentlemen’s clubs, Onyx, Curious began bringing his DC swag south. Being around some of today’s most notable celebs, Curious is never phased, he just continues pleasing the crowd. “I’m a people person, I just know how to be around people and have fun.” Making the permanent move south, Curious, now based out of Tampa, FL is looking to continue growing his name as a DJ. Using his networking skills, Curious has been able to plug into the Tampa music scene in just a matter of months. Teaming up with NuNoise Entertainment, Curious, still trusts that God is continuing to put the right people in his path. Since he has been in Tampa, DJ Curious Baby Face has already been the DJ for the Chris Brown/ Bow Wow concert as well as a party with NFL’s Darrell “D-Jack” Jackson. Curious is also working with Grindmode Magazine as it prepares for its upcoming launch. When asked about his future goals, Curious plans to continue growing as a Celebrity DJ along with branding his own line of video mixtapes, and get back to his first love, acting. “I just want to do it all”. Curious, who was in a Cheerios commercial at age 4, and several black plays, is looking to follow in the footsteps of his half sister, Nicole Ari Parker. Curious grew up around Nicole, who got her first major role opposite Boris Kodjoe (now husband) on BET’s Soul Food. “My sister Reggi and Nicole have the same father (Donald Parker)” he tells. Whether it’s his willingness to break new records, or his ability to tell a story with his mixes, DJ Curious Baby Face is an undisputed crowd pleaser. -
