About Me

I was first produced in 1953 by Golden and Nephi Grigg of the Ore-Ida company, now a subsidiary of H. J. Heinz Company, as a means of utilizing potato shreds remaining from french fry production. On their second try they mastered the "tots", the first attempt being a potato based beverage. I first became available in stores in 1954. Today Americans consume approximately 70 million pounds of "Tots" per year.

Let's hear it for that tasty and delicious classic that's so easy even Dad can make dinner - TATER TOT CASSEROLE! (or TATER TOT HOTDISH as it's known in some Midwestern parts.) To make it a true one-pot meal and more nutritious, add a can of your favorite veggies drained - try mixed veggies, peas, green beans or corn. For an extra tasty treat, top with shredded cheddar cheese, or my good buddy cheez wiz!
